I finally finished this commission!
A stupid flu slowed everything down, and for a long time I wasn’t happy with how it was turning out, haha. But in the end it actually came together quite nicely ✨
Most importantly - the client is happy!
Chapter 34. In the Name of Her Ascension
“I woke up overwhelmed by a surge of feelings.
It was the first time Transparent had appeared in my dreams in what felt like a very strange stretch of time for me.
I looked around and saw smoke.
Real smoke. The room was drowning in it, thick fumes pouring from behind the door. There was a fire. No one was around - only me lying on the bed while clouds of smoke curled through the air. From the corridor I could hear crackling and noise.
I was afraid for the other residents of the dormitory.
And then I managed to stand up.
My legs obeyed me again - poorly, but they did. Without thinking about them, I rushed to the door, tried to open it, and realized I couldn’t get into the corridor. The door wouldn’t budge, and the handle was burning hot.
What saddened me most was that I couldn’t help anyone.
I opened the window, hoping to climb into the neighboring one and search for people who might need help. Along the outer walls of the building there were old rusty fire ladders on both sides of the residential sections. You could reach them by walking along the ledges.
A thought crossed my mind - did I even need to reach them?
But I tried anyway. My hands uncertainly grasped the outer edges of the window frame. Only a few meters remained before the ladder.
Smoke was pouring out of the neighboring windows. I heard no screams, no calls for help - only the howl of the fire and the choking smoke.
Far below there was a huge crowd near the building. I could even see a fire truck arriving.
And then - just a little more - I caught the ladder and hung from it helplessly, unable to move.
Transparent… you saved me again.
- I’m well. I’m completely well now, Transparent!..”
