PHEW! Started this yesterday morning and pretty much didn't stop drawing until just now aside from a 6 hour sleep. X'D
This was a whole lot of fun. I started yesterday morning by drawing a phoenix with it's wings spread that looked more like a dove, but it kind of looked like every other phoenix out there... so instead I copied a Heron! I really wanted it to be at least somewhat unique.
This is for a trade with Cinemel on Deviantart who is my idol artist and I am more than honored to be trading with her!!

I do actually recall reading someplace that the mythical phoenix was supposed to be more based off of cranes or herons than eagles or hawks, so 'tis an interesting approach :P
Though I'm also a fan of there being multiple subspecies of phoenix based off of different birds.
