Actually, I was always thinking that it's Pokedex that does all the thinking for you. Like, it scans the data of your pokemon in pokeball and then compares it against the existing data collection. If people could just casually look at a pokemon and know everything about it from its species to its current moveset, then entire thing with pokedex would be pretty pointless.
