LONG BACKSTORY BELOW/AHEAD.If you don't like reading, you can skip it but I've put unreasonable amounts of time into this character and the whole world he lives in, so I do hope you read and enjoy the immense amount of time, thought, and effort I've put into this character and his world.
More characters and details of and about this universe are to come in the future as I have a LOT already written, assigned, and thought out about it, with likely more that will develop over time, as well.
Adys Lenton is a very good, even best, friend of Arthur's. Arthur and Adys were both created for the original Jurassic Park. While Adys was made a year after Arthur, they still remained close like brothers.
After Arthur managed to escape Isla Nublar in 1998, Adys was perfect fine with staying....for a while though.
By 2005, his intelligence had increased dramatically, similarly to Arthur's. While he was nowhere near as intelligent as Arthur would turn out to be, he grew far smarter than the rest of the herd they'd both grown up with and soon, he began to think of ways for himself to get off the island, explore the world, and maybe even bump into Arthur once again.
However, this plan took a notable shift by the following year of 2006. While exploring a cave, primarily for resources, he came across a very unusual stone formation, consisting of a stone he did not recognize from the island. Curious, he broke off a small stalagmite of it and inspected it.
It had a reddish-purple glow to it, and that glow was softly pulsing. He doesn't know why, but he had the idea to smash it, so he did. He threw it against one of the other cave walls. Upon shattering, the pieces of it began to pulsate, and then they all dissolved and then reformed into a big portal, glowing the same colors.
Adys was mystified by this, but his curiosity grew, and he stepped through it. Upon doing so, he felt a strong change. His body's anatomy was changing. It hurt a bit, but he had to know, so he continued to step through the portal. The pain grew, but soon he was on the other side.
He looked at himself, and he realized he was no longer in a feral stance anymore. It was more towards a semi-anthro pose. He was confused why, but his confusion faded to the back of his mind, for the time being, as he looked up.
He was in the alleyway of a big city. One he did not recognize in any matter. It looked to him like Detroit, except things were just a bit off compared to what he knew of Detroit. After the pain of the forced anatomy change wore off a minute or so later, he exited the alleyway, and found a street.
He looked around, and things seemed pretty normal, at least up until a car passed by and the driver swerved and honked. They yelled at him, saying "Get some clothes on! What are you, feral?!" as they drove off.
Adys was confused, but then a marked police car stopped next to him, and the driver rolled down the window. What he wasn't expecting was a Styracosaurus officer in the driver seat. They had the body structure of a human, but all the features of a dinosaur, which he would soon learn to be anthro.
The driver asked Adys if he was lost, and he replied with "You could say that". The officer was kind, and asked "Where's your clothes?"
Adys wasn't sure how to answer it without sounding crazy, so he simply said he didn't have any. "You get robbed for everything you had including the clothes on your back?" the officer asked.
Not having any better responses, he said yes in response. The officer then offered to give Adys a ride, offering to get him some "new" clothes. As they drove, the officer asked if Adys was a tourist. Adys nodded, figuring that he wasn't far off from a tourist, so the officer then decided to show him some notable landmarks. Through conversing with the officer, whom he soon learned his name was Jayden Kole, he soon learned the city was called Mesotopius, in the state of Hitchigon. He also learned that the year was not 2006, but instead it was 1996.
Adys started to make connections. Dinosaur driver, similar-but-wrong city to Detroit, him being yelled at to put some clothes on, this wasn't the Earth he'd known, but a similar, alternative-dimension variant of it, that was also 10 years behind Earth's timeline.
Jayden and Adys continued in conversating, and Adys learned more and more about the city, and even the world he was in. The planet's name was Urha, and it was quite similar to Earth. However, Adys never stated where he was from or any details about it, as he just had a feeling not to.
Along the way, Adys looked at every little detail he could see and absorb. He only saw anthro and, like himself, semi-anthro dinosaurs roaming, talking, and living their lives. On Urha, it appeared as though dinosaurs were the primary population, though he did notice some species that, on Earth, were not considered "dinosaurs" but instead were considered to be prehistoric reptiles.
After about an hour, primarily getting stuck in Detroit-like traffic, Jayden pulled over at a clothing store and parked. Adys was about to step out, but Jayden stopped him. He reminded Adys that he was, essentially, naked. Jayden asked Adys his size, and Adys said he didn't know.
"Did the muggers knock you out to make you forget their faces?" Jayden asked. Adys nodded, and Jayden sighed a bit. He let Adys step out, and walked alongside him into the store. Most of the shoppers were shocked at Adys and his lack of clothing, but Jayden defended him, saying he was helping out his "friend" who'd gotten mugged bigtime.
Adys figured a simple T-shirt and some shorts would work well. To somewhat of his surprise, the clothes were divided into sections. Not by size, or by male and female gender, but instead by species name.
Adys was a tad confused initially, but realized that it made sense given every resident and citizen were dinosaurs. He went to the semi-anthro sub-section in the Gallimimus area, and tried on some clothes until he found a basic white shirt and some casual sweatpants.
After he was clothed, Jayden paid and took him back outside. He asked if Adys knew his way home, but quickly remembered that, as far as he knew, Adys was a tourist so he figured he had no home in the city.
Luckily, being a cop, Jayden knew a few folks who would've been more than willing to help out a "struggling" citizen. He drove him there and Adys was given a modest apartment.
Adys greatly thanked Jayden for all of the help he'd given him already. Jayden assured the Galli that he swore an oath to protect and serve, and that's what he had done. Adys appreciated that, and Jayden opted to help out Adys further, to which he accepted. After Jayden left to resume his policing duty, Adys got to thinking as he sat in the apartment.
This new world was quite strange, but he felt that he rather liked it, notably more than Isla Nublar. He felt....at home, even though he only had just arrived barely some hours before.
This began Adys' new life.
For the next several months, he began to adapt and adjust to life in Mesotopius and Urha. He stayed in touch with Jayden, and the two grew closer as friends. Eventually, a year or so after Adys' first arrived, Jayden offered the Gallimimus a job. Not just any job, but at the police department where he worked.
Jayden had known Adys was somewhat struggling to find a job during the time he knew him, so he offered a helping hand, and Adys accepted. He did very well at the training, surprising even Jayden, who was quite notably muscular and athletic himself.
But....this is when the world of Urha and Mesotopius began to change Adys' life.
9 years later, a lot had happened and changed. His friend, Jayden, was eventually offered a position in the FBI, to which the Styraco accepted. While this wasn't a huge deal to Adys, as they still kept in contact, it was a notable absence he felt at the precinct and on the job.
During this time, he had also found more of the portal rocks, or Pretapium (pronounced Pr-eh-tape-e-um) as he came to call it, and occasionally returned to Earth. He did this in secret, however, as he learned that there were no humans on Urha. Never had been, and there never were. The meteor that killed the dinosaurs, 65 million years before on Earth, never happened on Urha. The dinosaurs never went extinct, so they continued to survive and evolve over time.
But when he went back to Earth, he once caught Arthur, who had returned to the island coincidentally on the same day. The two friends hugged and reunited, and Adys learned that Arthur had set up and built a library, called Fossil Archives, and even had a wife by the name of Maria. Even though she was a Tyrannolophosaurus hybrid, Adys was glad Arthur had built a good life for himself on the mainland. Adys then explained his adventures and discovery of the dimension.
Arthur was intrigued, but could not spare enough time to listen to everything. So he gave Adys the address of his library and the two have written notes and letters to one another, often talking about current happenings in their lives.
But as more time passed, Adys started to see the reality of Mesotopius, and how brutally harsh it was. Over his nine years since joining the force, he did everything by the book or as he was told.
But he learned there were a variety of mafias, mobs, and overall a lot of organized crime in Mesotopius alongside the traditional crimes. While the unorganized crimes, like robberies, murders, and kidnappings were relatively normal and expectant to deal with, the organized crimes were not.
The criminal organizations were neat, nearly-untraceable, and anyone that was a part of them was practically untouchable. Oftentimes, if a member or several were arrested, they would only remain in jail for some days to a week, at most, before being "anonymously" bailed out in full.
Adys hated this, as he began to feel....ineffective. As the years continued on, he grew more and more unhappy with how little it felt like he was able to do against the high-tier criminals. Even as he got more promotions, eventually becoming a Commander in the precinct, only three ranks below his Chief.
But a glimmer of hope came. The largest of criminal organizations was called the High Flyers. They were known for moving counterfeit money and forged/stolen documents through Mesotopius’ drug stores, hospitals, and other locations that handle such documents, but they also had been known to be involved in kidnapping, extortion, and contract kills.
The leader, a Hatzegopteryx named Arlon Masitor, had a son who wanted no part of the life, and resorted to secretly going to the precinct. Adys was the first officer the boy encountered. Adys, committed to serving and protecting like the oath he swore, listened to the boy. He had very, very valuable information that helped both Adys and his superiors.
However, the boy felt unsafe, worried about what his father could do if he ever found out that his son was talking to the police. Adys thought on how he could protect the boy, when he thought of something they both could benefit from. Adys offered to adopt the boy once they took down his father.
He was surprised by the idea...but the boy eventually agreed. Some more months passed, as the boy continued to provide Adys with information, which helped them formulate a plan to eventually take down the boss. Adys and Arlon's son grew closer. Adys treated him with respect and care like a true father, giving him a place to stay when he wanted to get away from Arlon, and caring for him as a father should've.
But, things eventually came to a head after 1-and-a-half years of this.
There was a plan in place to take down Arlon and his whole organization without a chance of them recovering. Adys was prepping to adopt the boy, and he was prepared to move in with Adys. Despite them both being insanely careful and secretive....Arlon found out about his son's betrayal and Adys' involvement.
While the boy was packing his things into Adys' vehicle....a shot rang out. It struck the boy, and Adys tensed up immediately. He drew his service weapon, but was met with the stock of a shotgun whacking him in the face and knocking him to the ground.
His vison was hazy, but through it, he could see Arlon and several of his bodyguards standing over. Arlon gave some order, and then the bodyguards began beating, kicking, and sometimes even stabbing Adys repeatedly while he was down.
It may have only been for about a minute, but Adys was in agony and wouldn't have lasted much longer. He then caught glimpses of the boy, who'd been shot in the lung and was on the ground, bleeding profusely.
But Arlon took a glowing hot dagger and gashed Adys across the face. Somehow, he missed puncturing Adys' left eye...but the hot blade left a terrible mark across his snout and damaged the area around his eye. His vision in that eye got bloody and hazy as he bled terribly.
After that, Arlon ordered his bodyguards to stop the beating of Adys, as he was battered enough and presumed to die from his injuries.
Arlon then turned to his son...with a weapon in his hand. Adys could only watch, weakly and helplessly, as Arlon walked over to the bleeding body of his son. The son, gasping and coughing blood, weakly stretched his hand towards Adys, as if he could do anything.
Adys then watched in horror as Arlon lifted his weapon and put it right against his son's head. Adys thought he wouldn't....but Arlon did. One shot was fired...right into his son's head, ending him and his suffering right then and there.
Adys was utterly devastated, and he lost the strength to stay conscious and passed out. Arlon and his guards left the scene, leaving Adys to die.
However, passing near the area minutes later was none other than Jayden. Jayden didn't know why he was where he was, as he'd decided to take a different route home after working out at the gym that day.
It was by that stroke of luck that he saw Adys' unconscious, beaten body in the alleyway. Jayden gasped, and rushed from his car to check on his friend. He checked the Galli's pulse, and he felt one. It was weak, but he was still relieved that Adys was alive.
However, he then noticed the corpse of the son. Jayden knew the boy too, and had intercepted communications between Adys and him. He knew Adys' plan to save the boy, so he was beyond shocked to see him dead. He knew Arlon was vicious, but even he had never expected the mob boss to kill his own son.
Regardless, Jayden knew he couldn't save the boy, but he was sure Adys could be saved. He loaded him into the back of his vehicle and hurried to the nearest hospital. As he drove, he called for a coroner to clear up the horrible mess left by Arlon in the alley.
Jayden got Adys to the hospital and admitted him. Adys, thankfully, pulled through that night and began his slow recovery. He was in a medially-indused coma for several weeks while he remained on life support.
The mark across his face remained. It was only somewhat cauterized by the blade, and wasn't healing entirely correctly. Alongside this, a somewhat-bloody cateract formed over his left eye. Adys was lucky not to have lost his eye, or vision in it, from the hot blade. However, his eye had some visual damage as it's hazel color turned to blood-red.
Several days a week, Jayden would check in on Adys. He knew Arlon would've wanted to finish the job if he found out that Adys survived, even if barely, so Jayden utilized his FBI power and access to keep Adys' recovery a secret from any potential eyes that may have had a connection to Arlon and his organization.
Over the course of the next 8-9 months, Adys slowly recovered from his injuries...mostly. His damaged eye never returned to his hazel color, and the huge scar on his snout remained as a permanent reminder of the brutal beating he sustained.
But during his recovery, the feeling of helplessness returned stronger than ever. He felt ineffective as a cop at protecting the innocent, like he was fighting a losing battle. And he was entirely helpless to save someone who wanted a fresh start. He remembered the kindness Jayden showed him in his early days, and he soon grew angered.
He started to realize that the criminals, mobs, all of them never played by any form of rules besides ruthlessness and violence. Adys began to realize that the only way to effectively combat the rampant crime....was to not obey the rules either.
Towards the end of his recovery, he decided he was going to become a vigilante. He knew he could fight crime that way, but given most of the criminals were violent and killer, he knew he had to be, too.
He wasn't going to stop the criminals and give them to the police, that never worked during his years as a cop and it sure wouldn't work now. He knew they had to be killed so they could never do another crime and hurt anybody else.
It was through this that he formed an alias, the Midnight Handler. He remembered some things from Earth and its media. Given that nobody in Urha had knowledge of anything relating to Earth...he utilized some aspects to create this second side of him.
To match the "Midnight" part of the name, he decided to only do his vigilante acts during the night, which is also when the crime in the city and surrounding areas seemed to really amplify. As such, all of his outfit and weapons are black or an otherwise-dark color so they're hard to see.
He also thought about when he would, inevitably, go toe-to-toe with some organized crime members, so he opted for a custom alloy. Luckily, in the years since his arrival, he'd made a huge variety of friends besides just Jayden.
One was a blacksmith, who forged all of Adys' armor to his specifications. He also provided Adys with personalized weapons to use as well.
His chest and leg armor are entirely bulletproof of all calibers, and are said to be primarily of cast iron. Heavy, but not too heavy for his build as a Gallimimus. His mask is also made of this same material, but it has some unique aspects.
It's biggest aspect is that it has a small neural connector when Adys, and Adys alone, puts it on. What does this connector do? It allows the expression on the mask, the eyes of it, to change and display Adys' current expression he is doing underneath the mask. It remains standard on red X's if he has a neutral expression, but anger, fury, concentration, the mask's eyes will change to represent this. It also allows him to see through with flawless, even enhanced when needed, quality.
Jayden had to assist with this technology, utilizing his FBI resources to get Adys the needed parts in secret. It also can allow Adys to have full access to his police database. This gives him the ability to access and utilize any city system for his nightly hunt.
Traffic cameras, criminal databases, known residencies and aliases, he has access to and uses to his advantage when hunting criminals down. The mask also has a voice changer, so nobody can identify him by his voice. He can change it to just about any voice, with any filtering he may want to do, but does keep to one voice when he portrays the Midnight Handler, so criminals know its him when he eventually catches up with them.
However, the neural connector does have a small side effect. Its not known why, but when he puts on the mask, connecting the connector, his other eye goes red for the duration that he is wearing it. He can still see through both eyes well, but its noted that his right eye will remain red for 1-2 seconds after he takes his mask off before returning to its natural hazel color.
His hat and trench coat were custom-tailored by Jayden for him. Utilizing some aspects of private eye detectives he remembered from Earth medias, his Handler alias remains recognizeable, yet unfamiliar and unique, to those in Urha.
He is ruthless, and highly skilled thanks to his time as a cop, when he garners this alias from dusk until dawn. He kills criminals effectively and wipes out whole groups some nights.
But, he is careful not to leave any trace that could point back to his identity of Adys Lenton. After he kills a criminal or multiples, if he's using his own personal weapons and not any provided to him, he will ensure to pick up every shell casing and every single piece of potential evidence that could even possibly find a way to be traced back to him.
Crime notably dropped down the more he garnered the nighttime alias. He never ran out of criminals to kill, and he was fine with that.
While he won't hesitate to kill any criminals doing unorganized crime, he primarily aims to focus on the previously-untouchable organized crime organizations. He doesn't just aim for the High Flyers, he goes for all of them. There are several, but they're all the same to him.
Just common criminals who ruin lives and are able to escape and avoid the law.
But they can never avoid him. He would never stop hunting them down, and there was nothing they could ever do to stop him.
HOLY HELL, that is EASILY the longest backstory I have EVER written for an FA post, let me tell you.
As stated at the very top, I do hope some of you actually read all I've written. I won't lie, as of this posting, I have been writing this for several hours, and that is because I've had this character cooking for a LONG time.
It started out with just Adys....but over the last 9 months...it and him have evolved into so much more. I've got at least 25 pages worth of notes regarding Adys, the world he lives in, his friends, and details about the lives of the characters I've created within this new world. There's still a lot I left out about Adys above, but as I said, I've been typing this description/story for several hours now, and a good chunk of what I left out can come on a later post about him, the other characters, and the world that he's living in.
A lot about this world and its characters will be posted over the next few months because I've put so much heart, soul, and effort into it and I hope every one of you enjoys it ^^
EDIT: The badge on his uniform saying "Pretopius" is now outdated and meant to be "Mesotopius" after a recent update I made.

Tragic, absolutely. But can make a character more believable and adds variety to one's roster.
And also this tells me I haven't lost my creative writing knack. Was worried I was losing my touch with big projects or long stories as I haven't done one in a while.
