The THC in pot is a Cannabinoid, it's a chemical compound used by the brain to carry out various functions. These Cannabinoid react with Cannabinoid receptors in the brain and Immune system. Thank fully respiration doesn't use Cannabinoid receptors so you won't suffocate if they stop working :P

If it has a brain odds are is has Cannabinoid receptors, Fish have them, so do birds, reptiles and mammals. You can get all of those things high. Fish can't smoke weed mostly because they have no lungs. As for reptiles yeah they can get high, I've done, just blow in their face. It takes a bit of a while mostly cause their metabolism is so damn fucking slow.
