What’s Cooking
A Thursday Prompt story

Prompt: soup
“That smells wonderful,” Lucinda said, the Ibizan hound walking into the kitchen with her nose raised like a feral canine.
Standing over the stove, Rosa grinned. The Iberian lynx continued stirring the mixture of finely chopped onion, celery and carrots in the pot before taking the spoon out and setting it aside. She then dumped a minced garlic clove into the pot. Stirring again she said, “Wait till it’s all finished,” and half-turned so she and her spouse could share a kiss. “I’m just starting the foundation to it.”
“I love the smell of onions cooking, though,” Lucinda said. “Is this all the other ingredients?” she asked, pointing at a collection of small bowls, a pitcher and an unopened bag of egg noodles that sat beside a plate heaped with chicken that had been stripped from its bones and chopped up.
“Yeah,” Rosa said. “A nice homemade chicken noodle soup.”
“Yum, can’t wait.” Lucinda grabbed a morsel of chicken and ducked her mate’s halfhearted swipe at her, grinning impishly.
“Hey! Keep nibbling on the chicken and it’ll be just noodle soup!” Rosa smiled to take the sting out of her tone of voice before adding chopped basil, oregano and parsley to the pot after the onions had gone translucent, stacking the small bowls to one side to be washed later. A few stirs to coat the herbs with oil and let them start releasing their essences, the lynx poured the chicken stock in the big pitcher into the pot. She stirred while Lucinda hugged her from behind.
Rosa pressed back at her. “Love you.” She set the spoon aside.
“Love you, babe,” Lucinda said. “So, when will it be done?” the hound asked.
“Once it comes to a boil I’ll add the chicken and noodles – maybe a little splash of white wine,” Rosa said, “and then I’ll bring it to a boil again, then simmer it. The noodles will go in last.”
“So - ?”
“Maybe a half hour or so,” the lynx said. “Why? You want an appetizer first?” she asked in a teasing tone, turning away from the stove and placing her paws on the hound’s rear.
Lucinda licked her lips. “Yum.”

Very tasty! My personal strong point is vegetable soup, simmered overnight and with so much vegetables in it you have to eat it with a fork, but this sounds like a very delicious soup as well!
*chuckles* And those two lovebirds sound very tasty as well, and it looks like they will be enjoying lots of goodies before they even get to the soup. Hopefully they won't let it burn! >~_^<
