You chuckle and reply. “If I didn’t enjoy the sight of musclebound men in close contact with each other, I wouldn’t have joined this event, now would I, Rokash?”
Rokash laughs. “There is a lot in arena! What you say. You perhaps saw me perform! Maybe remember one of my characters… Jade Gauntlet? The Executioner? Bloody Buccaneer?”
Your eyes widen. “YOU were the Bloody Buccaneer? What an incredible coincidence, I was in Blackhill for the show where you got killed off! The effects were amazing, I could swear your arm got chopped off for real! I think I saw it twitch on the ground, I have no idea how they pulled that off.”
Rokash crosses his arms. “Ah. Yes, that was good. Not difficult. Invisible spell on arm, and, what’s the word… animated prop. Practice to make it look good, that was hard. Effects are, eh, flashy, but nothing without good fighter to make work.”
Rokash seems a little tense, like you touched a nerve. You decide to change the topic. “I’m sure it is. But tell me about yourself outside the arena, Rokash. What do you usually do for fun?”
Rokash adopts a more relaxed position. “I have not a lot of time outside job. I must train a lot with other fighters. But they are all good friends. They know I like men and don’t matter. We go to tavern a lot. I can meet you with them, if you want.”
“You mean, you can introduce me to them?”
“Yes! Sorry, not good with your words. But you’re librarian! You teach me, no?”
“I could! Wow. It’s so cool to know you’re all friends when you’re not pretending to kill each other, though. I can’t imagine the Bloody Buccaneer and the Venom Vandal having a laugh and sharing a drink.”
“Oh, him, no. I don’t like.” Rokash’s smile turns into a slight frown. “Also, he’s now Beast of the East. Venom Vandal got head cut off. It was very funny.”
