The sketch sheet for the new gatorcat Lu.
Had the idea for something like it back in February but only could manage to pick at it with how things have been lately.
It was supposed to be a April fools drawing with Orca Lu actually being a VR representation of inflatable Lu here. Complete with complaining about the heat stretching his vinyl and then having to find a charger way out in the middle of nowhere. But as time went on, I kinda like his designed too much for a simple one off so...
I wanted to have him designed more monster like but to me, I can't really pull that look off with how soft and rounded my lineart is so was going to move on past it for something else. That is until I started to notice a lot more poolfloat characters then and that's when it dawned on me. If a monster is supposed to be all sharp angles and aggressive lines, then how about a poolfloat monster which would have all the opposite softness and roundness instead?!
A few sketches later, rough work, and one decision to finish it fully later, we got the gator...cat, gatorcat. Based off a alligator and blue catfish because I have a friend who always sees me as a alligator and blue catfish because both love the color blue and on quite the fish character kick. That and have you seen what both alligator and catfish will go through for a bite to eat?
