Even though Juniper's unique mutations could have made her every bit the formidable professional battler as her brother and nephews, she instead felt a different call take her, as she disliked how her fire/ice blend injured when she was forced to use it offensively. What she was instead taken by was the glitz and beauty of the Contest scene, a way she felt like she could show off both her unique colorations, her mixed typing and the skills it let her conjure up without causing injury.
All of this was eventually matched with her performer identity of "Jun Ensetsu", a stage name that called to her family's heritage of coming from the Kanto and Johto regions, which she further combined with traditional kimono dress styles, wear and dances, turning her into a statuesque beauty who grew to charm thousands on live TV as she dazzled them all with crystaline snowflakes that had fires burning deep within, embers that extinguished themselves into flurries, and her specialty of making a tree of ice before filling the 'leaves' with flames to create the image of a shedding cherry blossom.
All of her hard work and effort came to that moment when the contest judges approached her, beckoning the gigantic woman to kneel to tell her something that made her cry in shocked happiness. As she regained her composure, she stood tall and proud while they brought out a stepladder to reach up to her. The crowd's excitement went from hopeful cheering to screaming in excitement as they gently tied the ribbon to her ear - the Beauty Master ribbon, a sign that of every Pokemon competitor, she was considered to be the most beautiful one there in both her looks and her use of her abilities, an honor that she would happily wear with her for the rest of her life.
Just some worldbuilding stuff that we felt like was a good time to share!
Since we (us and Lurker) envisioned that the Pokemon world Juni is from is a place where the presence of anthros means battling is more of an MMA-like sporting event, we similarly had the idea that Contests would still exist, though be very similar in being places where various Pokemon are rated on talent and attributes. I felt like it was a nice call for Juni to contrast her family, some of whom are battlers, by instead being focused on contests. And of course... in a world where human and pokemon can freely intermingle, a woman like her? Probably irresistible to many and objectively attractive as all get-out, so winning the beauty competition would make plenty of sense.
A lot of this ties into her backstory pretty closely - the origin of her stage name (her real name is Juniper), her outfit styling and overall just being a very pretty piece showing her off looking fully glitzed up!
Juni belongs to me! (With pokemon being @nintendo)
