For a while I've thought of doing something based on the story of the Children of Lir, probably the most famous of all Irish transformation stories, but I was still hesitant with bird TFs. What finally convinced me was looking at Matthew Bourne's revisionist Swan Lake, which he famously revamped as a Gay love story, which is why I added a romantic pairup here. But more importantly he got his male dancers to really move like swans, and not like the stereotypically dainty, prancing ones people think about - his swans don't just glide gracefully; they also flap, they hiss, and they waddle like actual ones. They're graceful, but also powerful and sometimes aggressive, like real swans. Just have a look here and you'll see what I mean - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm6MGWeE-as&t=1108s
Really makes you see how some young men might be drawn to that grace and power and want to meet them in the water.
I feel I should just admit upfront, I was never a fan of any of the Swan Princess movies - even as a kid I saw them as Disney ripoffs. But also I knew the actual Swan Lake story way before - I still have a very fine picture book of it written by Margot Fonteyn, and the illustrator also manages to make the transformed characters look very birdlike, even in their human forms.
