The day started quite awfully for Henry the Green Engine. He was in a poor state when his driver and fireman tried to start him early in the morn. No matter how much coal they shoveled into his firebox, he refused to steam.
"What a bother! What a bother! I cannot steam!" He exclaimed.
Eventually, after much laboring, the exhausted fireman was able to get a good steam going from Henry.
"Hooray! Hooray!" they all cheered.
By that point, Henry had been relieved of his daily duties by the Fat Controller. He had given up on Henry for the day while the fireman was toiling away.
"Never mind him, old boy! Let's go for a nice ride across the countryside; that'll get you feeling fine once more!" The fireman wiped his brow and joined the driver in Henry's cab.
Though he was still feeling a little under the weather, Henry was delighted by the prospect, and whistled in agreement.
'Whoot! Whoot!' went his whistle, and he pulled out of the stuffy old shed.
By the time the sun was rising, Henry and his crew were racing along the Sodor countryside. The cool air did wonders for the green engine's maladies, and for a brief moment, Henry felt good as new.
"That's it, old boy," the fireman beamed, patting Henry's side.
Henry sighed contently at the affection, and looked off into the splendid dawn sky. Having an unusual build for an engine meant that Henry had his good days, and his dreadful days.
This, though? Despite all the bother?
Henry took a good look at the sun glistening across the ocean waves and sighed once more.
This was a good day for Henry.
