The toon's abilities and traits are revealed when face-up: they become more vulnerable and dangerous, ready to act. Perhaps some toons abilities are more reliant on being interacted with while in Face-Down defense mode, like a trap card! While others are more powerful when Face-Up, with abilities like Inflating to take up one Toon Slot on the enemy player's field, or Deflating/flattening to create an extra space for another Toon to occupy. Transforming into objects which can only be wielded by other toons once revealed! I had to think a while about how to reply to this...
