Another larger delay than I'd like but whatever, atleast its cute and I was still busy sadly.
So the context for this one is abit odd but its really cute I think when understood but I'll try and keep it a little slim here. Its early in Sass and Leif’s relationship, near the end of one of her final medical checkups in the bionics tech exchange program before she’s cleared to properly use her new implants out in the wild.
After the appointment he does the cliche sweet gesture of giving her candy, but as soon as she gets one Sass immediately unwraps it and devours it, leaving just the sticky lollipop stick.
As a little tease, and basically her first real “hit back” at him, she sticks it onto his tail when he's turned, which makes him panic at the sudden sensation with an "eep" and a whole startled reaction while she snickers from him trying to figure out what it is.
In the tail curl piece (which wow look at that quality jump even if both are rough lol) I already wanted to establish the connotation that for Teshari, messing with someone’s tail can easily carry romantic implications, so once he realizes she isn’t actually annoyed with him after calming it lands as her first direct bit of "playful teasing" towards him, setting the tone that their dynamic isn’t just her falling into his arms for the whole thing that stems afterwards, which given the starting power imbalance of a doctor and patient I think is a cute way to start leveling things out. I think the scene is kinda mad adorable its like the original ">:3" of their whole thing.
I worry its abit too corny but also, I think its fairly original lol. Hoping corny kinda works best for a narrative like this anyway. Largely started thinking about refining some more ideas like this after watching a romance show and kinda being disappointed at the lack of actual buildup and interactions between the characters.
As for the actual art side similar to the smoking piece just before ya can see I tried to do more with the shading, this time in light to more. . . Mild results I fear but improvements regardless, I am fairly happy with Leif's safety blankie catching some light in an interesting way and the PDA and hud looks pretty slick. Sass is abit more underwhelming, I kinda failed to give her good folds with the shading but the idea is there.
Happy to finally have like, a fully clothed Leif piece, the shirt I think turned out cute and I recycled an old foot wraps design I originally had on Sass which sorta got obsoleted by the sock I keep giving her instead. So its nice to have em on Leif given I think they fit nicely. Having em look more professional compared to Sass' usual fit is very fun in general.
The expressions were a challenge, I feel like Leif was more emotive in the sketch but I still think it sorta works in the final version, originally Sass had a WAY more boisterous laugh where ya could see mouth agape and everything, and while it was fine I'm way happier with the cute snickering I swapped it for instead since it fits a mood a whole lot better.
