August - he/it/any pronouns actually he doesn't really mind
The original purpose of the busted up wood-and-metal parts that make up August has been lost to time. A robot? A Warforged killed in battle? An expensive training dummy? Someone's idea of a sick prank? No one knows for sure.
Regardless, the constituent parts must've been abandoned in the ideal location to cultivate a massive slime mold-esque colony living inside the leftover pieces. The slime mold is magical in nature, enough to have gained some basic sentience and properly re-assemble the robotic husk. Thus, August (the name was chosen by saying a bunch of names at it until it seemed to react kindly to one) was born.
VARIOUS AUGUST FACTS:
- August is unable to speak (fitting since his shell is missing the mouth part) but has learned to write short phrases with his slime if communication is absolutely necessary. That's his sporewriting in the top left.
- He also has no combat abilities, despite looking like he should have some built-in to his robotic exterior.
- He is curious but easily overwhelmed.
- His emotion can be gauged based on how many slime spore bubbles he is emitting. More bubbles = more flustered, overwhelmed, or excited. Larger but more sparse spore bubbles = calm, happy, thinking.
- The constituent parts can separate for a brief time if August needs to hide or if part of the colony needs to heal, and reassemble as needed. Sometimes this happens involuntarily if he gets too nervous; his "head" especially has a propensity to wander off.
- He can change color (also involuntarily), depending on what sort of biome he has been spending time in. The colors shown were absorbed from the lush forest he calls home.
