The Horse-Headed Dazzle-Fin is one of the most peculiar fish found in the warm waters around northern Shangrila. On the one hand, its head makes it look, for lack of a better term, ugly. On the other hand, it has beautiful fins with dazzling rainbow colors. This combination of traits makes it a curious subject for researchers.

Its long mouth is well adapted for plucking sea grass and other aquatic vegetation. The placement of its eyes allows it to survey the area while it is feeding.

Although the colorful growths on its fins seem delicate, they are, in fact, very rigid and allow this fish a surprising degree of mobility. It can escape all but the swiftest predators.

It is currently unknown why the Horse-Headed Dazzle-Fin has its particular coloration. While its fins are colorful and eye-catching, the rest of its body is grey, blue, and white. The body colors are arranged in a way that provides good counter shading in water… which is counteracted by the dazzling fins. While theoretically the colorful fins could, and probably do, serve as display structures, the whole fish should be colorful for that to make sense.
