I'll be honest I have a soft spot for G5 mlp and Opaline especially. She's so kinda crappy in the show but there was so much potential.
In my head canon she's Flurryheart's less liked sister. Unable to compete with her talent, Opaline finds strength in her unusual talent of wielding dragon fire - of course this is not something Twilight approves of.
Scorned, Opaline storms Flurry's coronation. If they won't crown her, she'll take it by force!
