A friend of mine wanted me to make him a can opener based on a rather old style that was made around the 1800s and I obliged.
The perfect piece of material I found to make it from was an old stamped sheet metal wrench.
Most of the work was done with an angle grinder and with a file. Not much forging was done to this, but the blade was toughened up after quenching it at a red heat. The material doesn't have a lot of carbon in it, but the quench definitely made it sturdier.
My friend was quite certain he wanted this pattern and I'm glad I am not the one who's using it, because those edges on the can look awful lol.
