"Free Brick anyone?"
So, silly story... was walking home from the gym yesterday when I stumbled past some plants sat that the side of the road with a piece of paper saying "Free!" on it... held down by a house brick. I jokingly thought to myself "Oh hey, free brick!" and had a quick chuckle to myself... then the thought popped into my head of a comic where that exact same scenario played out, except it was a ps5 and an xbox x that were left behind... and that thought just had me chuckling all the way home...
Now you get to see my dumb thoughts realised XD
(Joked about rating this as Mature for the sick burn XD)
Anyway, hope you all enjoy. As always, don't forget to check out my Twitter & BlueSky where I upload all these things and more first.

This is actually the first generation since the Mega Drive/SNES that I didn't bother buying a single console as I literally found nothing worth buying...
Literally the only two games of interest on the ps5 both came out on PC and even then... neither of them were console sellers for me, so if they hadn't had done, I have just ignored them.

The only thing Sony has going for it atm is Astro bot, and all that does is give me depression with its member berry guest stars. Like its great you remember some of the console exclusives you've had sony, but maybe give us some of those games instead of just dangling them like shiny keys? and fuck knows what microsoft is doing
The hardware is all boring too, because everything is basically just...an x86 computer. There's no cutting edge wrangling of things anymore. Hardware is a solved issue, for the most part, it's good enough, so no one cares. And if you don't have cool new hardware, or exclusives (and part of the exclusive lock-in in the past was that it was designed for specific hardware)...what do you have? Why do consoles exist? At what point are they just over-priced, branded low-end PCs where everything is arbitrarily broken and locked down?
It really is incredible how far things have fallen apart, even before the whole AI RAM debacle. Waaaay back when the PS2 came out, it was INCREDIBLE. There were LINES AROUND THE BLOCK. People CAMPED OUT. And the games, and experience, for the time, was amazing. Original xbox was also pretty great in its way, despite its flaws, and even the CUBE, while only having like...12 games, was still pretty fun to mess with. The 360 had a TON of great stuff, while the other two kinda fell apart. Then Micro committed Sudoku and the PS4 was....ok. Adequate. Had a pretty decent gamepad.
But ever since I just don't see the point. It used to be, if you didn't have the money or the time to get into a given console, you'd feel this burning sense of missing out, of "man, look at all that cool shit I'm not playing." Probably just a function of getting older too, but I haven't felt that in ages. Ps4 was the last "modern" console I bought, and I haven't really felt any regret/fomo since. Recent Zelda looks kinda neat I guess, but not enough to get me to buy a Switch. The only thing I feel ANY real "man, I gotta get on that when I get some burnin' money" is VR, and that's mostly for VRC. I'm not sitting around going "Man, I've gotta go spend $6000 on PC hardware so I can...play Half Life: Alyx".
