The Indomitable Gauls
Digging up the sketchbook files, everyone! ;p This one here is a rendition of Asterix and Obelix completely from memory banks. No references used whatsoever, in order to see how these two would look like in my own style.
Fun fact, my passion for Asterix the Gaul was hereditary: my mom used to collect every volume, and they own a good chunk of my childhood fun - needless to say comic books were huge in terms of entertainment in the late 80's/early 90's, let alone in countryside Brazil which had an even simpler lifestyle than the main urban areas of a third world country. :p And, of course, the good old VCRs. One of the highlights of our week was going out on Friday nights to rent videos for the weekend, and such passion consolidated with three of their animated films: Asterix in Britain, Asterix Versus Caesar and The Twelve Tasks of Asterix.
Much because of them I'm usually looking to know other French-Belgian creations, BDs (a common term to refer to French-Belgian comics, as an acronym for "Bande Dessinée") or not, hence why I'm also a huge fan of Spirou & Fantasio, The Adventures of Tintin and Lucky Luke. And another fun fact: did you know The Smurfs actually originated from a BD, not as a Hanna-Barbera cartoon like many believe so? ;D
