Abandonment [Lore]
"Analysis reveals that, in the three centuries following the discovery of Abeyance, over 18,000 settlements have been built within it's boundaries."
"In contrast, only 6,378 settlements remain active. That is a failure rate of 65%. Grayline forgot to mention that, didn't they?"

"This is the final transmission of the UMEC Operational Colony at Mist Fade Seven Four Four. We are abandoning the colony. We tried. I... We... We tried. We tried and... We are so... alone... out here. It doesn't feel right. We don't feel... right. The settlement all took a vote, even corporate administration. We know the cost we just... I'm sorry. We just want to go home. We have to go home.
... ... ...
This is... This is Head Foreman Andrew Matthius Kormack... signing out for the last time."

Another personal piece giving you guys another snapshot of life in Alter, this time a more somber and melancholic one. The current setting of Alter is one of hope, determination, and bright-eyed exploration, but that doesn't mean everything is fine. Abeyance is often a quiet, lonely, unsettling place. It is not our home.
As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated. ^^

It's meant to be a goblin but honestly it can represent any universal being. They are a scavenger, visiting this long abandoned colony, likely looking for worthwhile trinkets left behind to take back with them and sell. right now, he's taking a break, just soaking in the atmosphere of this spot.~
Okay, just asking because they seem very lonely, very small in that huge pic, and with the theme of it (loneliness, melancholia, the need to go home...), I just want to hug them.
Honestly, I thought this was an estranged colon or maybe an abeyic being that was left without his universal friend, needing to sit down to withstand the sheer weight of the picture above them.

Scavengers in this setting have a habit of becoming quite philosophical or spiritual due to the nature of their work. This wont have been the first time this goblin has sat in front of the memorial to an abandoned effort, or a forgotten vision. For every uplifting, successful colony, there are two others like this, with optimistic words and hopeful propaganda slowly weathering away within the silence of limbo, graves to the pursuit of a new home.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me that out of the 18000 settlements that many of the failures would have been at the start when they didn't understand as well what they were doing, and learning from the lessons of the successful settlements and finding out the issues from those that returned from the failed ones that the success rate nowadays is much higher.
It could very well be the reason Grayline has so many support programs like the Companionship Program.
