Something is waiting far away.
Your blood is burning vividly.
You now know why you were born.
Run and run!
Run and run!
Become the wind and run!
Exceed the you from yesterday.
Confront something bigger than yourself.
That's right, youth is a shooting star that doesn't burn out.
If you turn around tranquility will,
just like your mother, call you to halt. But...
This dream you once had you can't give to anyone, can't hand it over.
Run and run!
Run and run!
Run without hesitation!
The tears you have shed have already started to dry.
A new sun is rising at the other side of the road.
Somebody waves and says "Let's run side by side".
Run and run!
Run and run!
Become the wind and run!
Exceed the you from yesterday.
Confront something bigger than yourself.

"Shika-san, you have to remain calm. Gin-sama said for you to take it easy until it's time for the human boy to remove your bandages," the large female akita cautioned as softly as her gruff voice would allow.
The shiba regarded her with a sigh and a shake of her golden head but smiled all the same. "Kaji-kun, you worry too much! It's been a week!" Shikashiri giggled softly, and the infectious sound mixed with the birdsong of Spring in Ou nearly masked the audible and painful hitch even her cheerful exertion had caused.
Kajitora chided her with a stern but genuine smile, and, for the moment, the hard-headed shiba inu settled back down next to the russet pelted akita, content to lean her weight against the firm side of the beardog.
"And to think," Kajitora thought as she looked down at the smaller female out of the corner of her auburn eyes, "I didn't think you had any right to be a Soldier." Shame filled her when her gaze flitted over the ecru colored bandaging, and a recent memory followed---
"But Sir!" the red tora-ge female barked in firm resolution, "this...this little brush dog would only be a hindrance to us...she and her kind are barely big enough to corner a boar's weakest piglet much less take down even one of Akakabuto's cubs!"
The red shiba female did not have a chance to make her retort. Did not have a chance to speak of how her need to avenge the death of her master at the claws one of the Demon Bear's minions would make her just as strong as the female akita soldier, if not more so. It was the silver tora-ge yearling, The Falling Star, Gin, who stepped forward to confront his fellow beardog.
"If size matters, Kajitora," the smaller akita began, a confident but well-meaning smirk growing on his muzzle, " then I would not have won your respect and your loyalty by making you lose a fight."
Kaji felt her face blush in slight embarrassment. Other than the witty saluki, Cross, she had been the only female to be considered strong enough to run with the males of Ou. To think that a human's tiny pet could be her equal had been a great affront to her tora-ge pride.
Still, Gin was right. He was half her size and had bested her even as she'd rained blow after blow down upon him. Spirit did count for something, and she had to admit, as she glanced at the steadfast shiba with a fair bit of disdain, that the little red puff of a dog had that in spades.
Then she thought of how she'd underestimated grievously the tiny brush dog's abilities and courage. The bandaging around Shikashiri's stomach and back might as well have been tied by her own guilty paws.
In the final fight to rid Futago Pass of Akakabuto's murderous reign and to win Ou back from the clutches of great bear, the little dog who seemed to weigh only slightly more than one of the blades of grass surrounding them as she lied beside Kaji in light slumber, had saved her life and nearly given hers in the process.
The boy, Daisuke, had hurried to the shiba inu's side after the great Demon Bear fell at the fangs and claws of Gin. The moment the smaller red dog had offered her life in sacrifice for Kajitora's, the akita's fierce loyalty had locked her at her side. It had taken the simple but reassuring gesture of a wag of Gin's curly tail and a nuzzle against the human boy's face for Kaji to agree to uncurl herself from around her savior, and she'd watched with infinitely scrutinizing eyes as the boy carefully tended to the wound.
Presently, she'd taken it upon herself to watch over Shikashiri's recovery. The headstrong and independent nature she'd once found annoying when the shiba had run with the Soldiers of Ou in the beginning was charming to her now...most of the time...
...but having to be constantly vigilant because of the shiba's tenacious need to run, to hunt, and to pull her weight as a Dog of Ou was nearly as tiring as facing one of the great bears they'd fought for a year.
She shifted against the shiba, testing to see if she was truly asleep. Not a movement save for the flick of a sharp triangular ear. Kaji smiled. Finally asleep. Lowering her huge head towards her large, tightly muscled paws, she took in a deep breath and readied herself for a few moments of true rest.
"You continue to underestimate me, Kaji-kun."
Before she could carefully grab the scruff of the crafty shiba, Shikashiri was nose to nose with her in a play bow, tightly curled tail wagging from side to side slowly.
"Shika-san," the akita tried to reason through a budding snarl, "this can wait for a few more weeks! Stop being so stubborn!"
The shiba's tongue was warm and soft on her cheek, and Kaji was surprised at how very much she enjoyed it for the second the tiny dog had given her such a forward embrace. It warmed her pelt as though she'd spent an entire day lazing about in the Spring sun. Blinking rapidly and blushing as though she suffered from a terrible fever, she fought with her trembling legs as she stood up to restrain the shiba who had turned on her heels and begun trotting through the plush meadow around them.
"Spring in Ou belongs to the dog warriors who freed Futago Pass, Kaji-kun, but freedom only lasts for so long, just as life itself does." Shikashiri took a moment to make eye contact with her, and Kaji admitted to herself for perhaps the first time that nothing made her as startled as the unflinching blue gaze of the smaller canine. "While this Spring is ours, I intend to enjoy it. Care to join me?" As quickly as the turn of a leaf in a storm, the free-spirited creature went from philosopher to child as she sprung away after a butterfly she'd stirred from the grass.
Kaji watched for a moment, spellbound by a new feeling that trembled from new grass between her paws to the mountain air in her broad chest. For once, the akita decided to lay duty aside and to engage in the pure joy of living in the moment with someone who seemed to have grown more and more important to her right under her very nose.
dakinkypimpwolfie's wifey, rainbowblaze recently had surgery, and I felt I needed to try to do something nice for the both of them with Shika being a bit under the weather and all. Silly Shika's being stubborn and trying to do too much, and Kaji's worrying herself to death over it, but that's why we love the Shika-butt. She's decided to John Wayne herself through her recovery.
Anyway, they are both fans of Nagareboshi Gin and Ginga Densetsu Weed, so I drew both of their characters in as close to a Gin sort of style as I could. I've never attempted it before, but I tried.
This was all done in Photoshop, and I guess it's my first real attempt at digital art in a long time. Background was referenced from scenes from the anime.
Shika and Kaji belong to their creators.
All canon material belongs to the Gin and Weed peeps.
Art is mine.
