The humble Fengren reside on a high mountain, basking in the beautiful skies of southern Tibet. These graceful bird folk glide to and fro about their village, blissfully unaware of the flames of war that rage on beneath their craggy abode. Ascending to Feng Village is an enormous challenge, but any visitors are met with hospitality. Risa is a Fengren with a special power that she dares not reveal: the power of Clairvoyance. When a friend suffers shortly after the arrival of a few warriors seeking refuge, Risa must use her forbidden power to seek the truth.

obviously just making lore up in my head but i could see that being true--some birds live very, very long (like parrots can live to 80 years) so i could see death in a bird society being somewhat rare! but i assume this ceremony is happening because someone was murdered. she went before her time so they have to do a ceremony like this to assure her spirit will pass on
