Just spent another day at Alton Towers in the UK with my hubby
hamakei. Very nice day and weather, though a tad chilly for this carno. Other than that, we had a round of mini golf (the play area left a bit to be desired), and maybe we could have planned things a bit better, as the line for our last ride (on "The Smiler") was far longer than we both would have liked. This is a screenshot of a video I took while on the queue for "Nemesis Reborn" -- video in my Bluesky ( https://bsky.app/profile/anthrosaur...../3mhyhhkgafk2c ; the couple on the right are just randos who were in line behind us.)
I had managed to overcome my fear of riding "The Smiler" in our previous visit (no way I'll ever ride "Toxicator", though). The coasters here are likely tamer than what some people may be used to, but that is a big reason why Hamakei and I like the place. We want something that gives just a bit of fun and a thrill, not make us second guess what the fuck we were thinking for wanting to ride it in the first place. And if anyone wants a break from rides and crowds, there is a huge garden where people can go in and get away from the commotion for a bit.
"Galactica" is still number one in my book here. :)

They've recently refurbished it, there is a lot more theming now. It's also been sandbagged in places to dampen the sound, but I am told the Nemesis Roar is still there. Just doesn't travel as far.
Haven't visited Alton Towers in a while. Hyperia opening day was my last coaster outing.

Well, the passes we've got give us access to all of Merlin's parks. But the thing is...most of them are down either in London or past it, which is a rather long way for us to go for a day out. Alton Towers is our nearest so it's become a regular trip for us. However we feel we should check out the other parks at least once. Including Legoland as a breather in the middle :D
Aye, travel is a big issue. Even us living in London at the time, we rented an AirB&B for Hyperia opening at Thorpe Park. We moved near Bedford recently, so we hope to have a much closer access to the Universal theme park being built there ^^
We'll probably need to get an AirB&B or a hotel room for our next Alton Towers outing too.
