I was woken up by the sound of knocking. Fortunately I hadn't been in bed for very long, but it was still late enough that anyone coming by was unusual. Maybe it was someone I knew? As I reached to grab a shirt the knocking turned to frantic pounding, the sudden shift in volume throughout the stark hall making me jump.
Okay, urgent, I guess.
Righting the shirt in my hands I quickly threw it on, along with the shorts from just earlier that day. Not the nicest, but in the dark and on such short notice that's what they were going to see. I grabbed the door handle and gave it a twist, stepping out into the dimly-lit hall stained blue by the night sky. Hitting the lightswitch as I traversed the short hallway down to the door I was briefly blinded, having to heavy blink a few times to adjust to the illumination.
Another knock, but quieter. Whoever it is must have seen the light turn on and my ears were thankful.
Upon making it to the front door I rubbed my eyes and shook my head, attempting to re-awaken before opening the door. Admittedly I was a little hesitant to open the door; there was no window or peep hole I could use to check who arrived. With a short breath I turned the handle and slowly opened the front door, waiting to see the silhouette of my visitor cross my view.
I recognized it right away.
