300 years ago...

W.S. was born in 1710. I doubt he carved this at age 15 so it's probably postdated.

Yeah, I've chosen to pin this one on John Stevens II instead. He was the right age to have done this in the 1720s, and I think the shape of the head is a little closer to the way he did them.

It does conform a little closer to how J.S.II was carving effigies in the 1720s.

Trivia I've Just Found: JS2 liked to put the e over the y in "ye", and his 5s were incomplete. Both things are true in this example, so my suspicions are confirmed!
