When I was 13 I started a (looking back, admittedly pretty bad) comic about a prince and a cursed roadtrip
The plot went everywhere and it was barfed up by a tween and harbored some outdated ideas
but I did love these characters
They got up to a lot of shenanigans in the 7 years the comic ran
And one of the characters I liked a lot, but didn't get much screen time bc he was kinda stoic and quiet; the humble stable boy, Myrth.
He got a full-ride scholarship to mage's college (the first in his family to go) and he majored in shapeshifting with a focus in steed studies. Got a job with the palace as a royal steed and stable hand. one of his coworkers (Oliver, the one whispering) is trying to fight up the ranks to be court wizard/advisor, but is still just a lowly steed and it drives him NUUUUUTS that Myrth is just as liked, he fucking detests it
their story took a backseat to the main plot, which is a shame, but I do like to think about it
But Myrth never quite looked like he did in my head. And I realized that after all this time, I could probably do him justice now
so here's to you, baby me
a gift from an artist who loves these OCs as much as you do
((and who can now actually draw them lol))
and at the risk of sounding horn-tooty, I am extremely proud of myself
This is about the level I was working with at the comic's peak (2016, 2017ish):

which isn't horrible, I've just learned a bit in the 9 years since then

High key I love that I can see both the roots of your art style and also all the ways you've grown since then, like- you honed in on and refined the expressiveness and life of the characters, but also could 2017 you have made the above 'bou with friggin dynamic, flowing musculature and hair blowing in the wind like you just went up two keys in a eurovision debut? Queen you are good at this
