This is a new form of my newest mare (SFW feral art). She's strongly connected to magic, so I felt like making her a non-fantasy species would be a loss of potential, now that I'm rebuilding her backstory and image to anthro. I decided to make her a dragoness of a sort, covered in short fur and with a fuzzy tail that matches her hair ❤
I've been asking you how to name her and I am aware I turned down a couple of mythological names, due to feeling like the given characters are already defined and their stories told. I have decided on a name for her and I feel really awkward announcing it, because I *did* go for a mythological name after all and decided to name her Kora.
Why doesn't Kora bother me and the other characters do?
First of, where I live no one names anyone with the names of Freya and Rhiannon (which were the propositions) and Kora is actually a more common name, albeit still quite rare in my region. There's even a famous singer who took this name as a pseudonym and in the place where I grew up, every other female dog was a Kora :P So this name has so many connections to other people and animals than the mythological character, that I don't have the feeling like it only belongs to the given character.
Secondly, I am much more into Celtic and Norse mythology, currently, than to Greek one, which has been my great passion, but when I was a kid, as this was the only mythology easily accessible for a < 10 yo without travelling to obscure book stores in other regions to find literally anything on other mythologies of Europe and it wasn't even a dream to get my hands on anything from other continents - thankfully this situation changed a lot since 90s. But I digress... Being more freshly into lecture of the northern mythologies, the names of those characters are standing for those characters more vividly in my mind, while Greek mythology is more lax. Especially that it's also a very common thing to name pets with Greek mythological names here and it's somehow culturally more justified for me (not that I look down upon other feelings in this matter, just explaining my personal standpoint). Even today my dog played with a certain Hades and Athena was Attention's childhood dogfriend, my childhood dog had a good friend Kora, there's been a handful of other Koras, Zeuses, Gaias and Dianas (even though Diana is a Roman name of Artemis) and I lost count of all the German Shepherds named Ares :P
Thus I decided to name her Kora. I hope this explanation satisfies you and that no feelings are hurt. I am really, really happy that you mentioned mythological figures and from my currently most studied mythologies 🥰 I am happy there's so many people that know them and let there be more!
In case you're not a mythology maniac, Kora is mostly known as Persephone. She's the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of harvest. Kora herself is a goddess of vegetation, but due to her marriage to Hades, also a goddess of death. I like the darker, mysterious vibe that it brings to otherwise a beautifully cheerful function. Kora is migrating between our world and the otherworld and when she's here, the spring and summer come and when she goes to her husband, the earth is covered with the death of vegetation in winter.
Also, I just randomly drew this tiny critter by her side and I can't with how adorable it turned out o૮(>ω< )აo ❤
