Family: Great Ape, Descendant of the Siamang.
Scientific Name: Primatus Rex
Local Name: Lakrod Kong (Great Kong)
Size: Can stand at 14 feet tall in males and weigh about 1 and a half tons. Females are half the size and weight.
Speed: Can sprint at 20 mph.
Lifespan: This species of apes' lifespan is usually between 80-95 years, depending of health.
Diet: Mainly herbivorous, they bulk feed on plants and fruits. They are known to eat small animals and invertebrates, but they catch them by weaving grass nets to trick small animals, like fish and rodents, into them, by then will collect them later. They never actively hunt like a traditional predator, but will also never turn down a carcass.
Social/Parenting: They live in troops, consisting of several females with young, which are lead by a single male that helps care for young and protects the troop. They live very similar lives as gorillas.
Habitat/Distribution: They live in all of the forested areas of future Borneo: Skull Island, from lowlands all the way up to Montane Forests.
Conflicts: Generally passive, most humanoid interactions have been quite positive, with no unprovoked attacks of people from these great apes. Many bonds with natives have been made with these large apes, showing signs of cooperation in defense, care of health and care for each others' young, with young apes being left in care of villages while the troops forage or ward off predators. The competition that these great apes do face are proven to be lethal monsters in their own right to not just the apes, but people too. These predators/competitors for the crown of Skull Island are: the Emperor Cobra, the largest venomous land snake on Earth currently in written history. A large gliding raptor known, whos name is unknown at this time, but is placed in the Snallygastoraptor family. And the largest predator on the island, a 6 ton megaraptor that is known to sometimes directly hunt the apes, mainly the females and young, for food, called the Insulavenator...
Fun Fact: Primatus Rex is the loudest mammal we know to date that is not a whale, reaching volumes of up to 155 dB. Males use this call to communicate and drive away sound sensitive predators, like the megaraptorin, while females use low grunts and hoots to communicate with the male, each other and their young.
Thanks to the artist for this great piece of art, really love his work.
