Heart Anthem [Lore]
"This feeling must be eternal/preserved. Never to fade. Love is the connection/language/bridge. I see/sense it. I feel/understand it. This is the song/sound/anthem of the organic/fleeting/heart. This is the heart anthem. I will learn to sing."

"We have, finally, officially confirmed the existence of Active Unknown 107. It's ring rune has been added to the log. What few reports exist on supposed contacts with 107 seem to entail a benevolent, gentle nature with a peculiar and very specific fascination with rituals of death and those in mourning. It appears protective of the dead, the dying, and those living with the weight of loss. In almost every purported interaction with an Abeyic Island under the control of 107, the witnesses explain, in great detail, the feeling that their loved ones are somehow present and watching over them. One witness described it as "the feeling that the air was somehow full of life, yet I was keenly aware it was life that was no longer living." Another has described the interaction as "the souls of the departed echoing in the wind, but in a comforting manner, not a frightening one."
107 seems to only reveal itself to organics in mourning, in the act of post-death ritual, or who are in some way or another, closely related to death, such as burial priests and grave tenders. Every interaction with 107 has been reported as an overpoweringly emotion yet positive experience. This is pure speculation, but perhaps this Engine is in some way related to souls, either in its own fascination, or in a directly related manner. Research should focus on this potential connection, as it could provide invaluable data on the nature of sapient souls and the afterlife."
"Addendum 1: The Psychology department have noted serious concerns over 107 in regards to mental and psychological health. While they detect no malice within 107's actions or motives, the fact remains that any form of emotional manipulation, even meant in a positive nature, can be extremely hazardous to people in a state of emotional instability. The department is worried the wrong ideas may form from interactions with 107, the most notable dangers being an assumption that somehow 107 can bring the dead back to life, which so far we have no evidence to suggest, and that by implying or inviting the idea that a loved one exists in the afterlife, it may encourage actions of self-harm or suicide. The department requests permission to put any who interact with 107 under very close surveillance, both for psychological study and the personal safety of the witness."
"Addendum 2: As of 24 Quarter 4 360, Active Unknown 107 has been given an official name. As it was a human who first encountered the Engine, the Commonwealth Council was given the honors of providing the new name. Henceforth, Active Unknown 107 shall be referred to as "Thanatos"."

The edges of the Abeyic Islands usually reveal themselves by simply vanishing into the infinite, misty white nothing of the Altering Plane, the pure form of Abeyance. However, if you truly want to gaze upon an Eternal Engine in as direct a manner as possible, that's where you'll have to go. Good luck.

It's a common issue we have to face in the wake of the Eternal Engines. Even the ones trying to help or be friendly have a hard time understanding what we want, or how their actions may be misinterpreted. Our kind of emotion is a difficult thing for them to grasp in its entirety
It doesn't seek out people who are dying, per say, it moreso approaches those who are mourning, or have experienced loss. People who have lost a parent, or sibling, or lover, or best friend. It seems attracted to those feelings whenever they are within its range, and from what has been seen of it, it tries to comfort and uplift people experiencing these feelings.
As for why, that is indeed the question.~
