this day i decided to finally watch the movie "There Will Be Blood", another Paul Thomas Anderson film
Hailed as one of the great classics, it was sooo intriguiing. Initially i really struggled to understand it, but i think it's attestation of its themes that even now it really makes me think.
Themes of those who are willing to compromise any moral and step over any person, even their loved ones, in the pursuit of power, and what effects that has on one's life. How industry had grown hand in hand with religion in those times, and completely overtaken it by the 1920s. How unchecked power consumes and destroys, simply because it can.
It's so interesting to see essentially the begginings of the boom of the oil industry.
i might've had a hard time grasping this movie because the subject matter is something i don't think about much, as is often the case
definitely the film does not spoonfeed you anything, so it can feel a bit daunting
but it is DEFINITELY worth a watch!!
pictured is the main character of the film Daniel Plainview, watching on as he sees his literal riches (oil) burning up in the sky after an accident at one of his oil drilling sites. A fitting image i would say, matching the unrestrained destruction his drive to obtain power and wealth wrecks upon the world, indifferent to who it affects.
in the end, he's accomplished his ultimate goals, and that's all that matters to him
