THU DIC 11 2025
i was being faced with a problem at work: a device in some place in the internal network is trying to connect somewhere on the internet, it seems to reach out ok, but a response is never received
the firewall is in the path of the connection, and checking the traffic going through and coming back in, it appears to make it through both ways.
However, there are definitely retransmissions being observed, meaning a message is being repeated many times because there is no follow up response to it.
Spent a few days mapping out the devices in the path between the inside and the internet, checking traffic captures of when the problem happened to try and figure out what could be going wrong.
i love going into traffic capture files and looking at all the finer details of what's going on in the communication between devices.
traffic captures are basically like a chat-log of the conversation(s) that are happening between devices, it's a super interesting thing to learn about <3
i used to do a lot of packet analysis in my previous job before hammer co, so this was a fun thing for me to get assigned to do at my new job >w<
