Seeing an artist's enthusiasm for, and lovely art of, pigeons in vintage clothing inspired me to get a piece on that theme as a commission from them. I thought it only right to have it pay tribute to the humble wood pigeon (Columba palumbus): they may not be the swiftest or sharpest of birds, but these chonky pigeons are hardy, adaptable, and bold enough to have become a real success in recent decades over here. It's so entertaining watching their antics, and I was quite pleased to even see one strolling along Southsea beach a few years ago.
Here's one dressed nice and sharply, complete with semi-spats and a bowtie to make him (or her, the androgyny of pigeons is a fun thing!) the most dapper dove in the neighbourhood.
