Leaving with breakfast, Watch checked his bags again, and just looked at his surroundings. There were a lot of people shopping, but it really got his attention when he saw the gas station. There were barely any people at the pumps, and everyone was just in the parking lot. Watch just passed by the window and saw people buying drinks, but the most common thing was packs of bottled water. He walked past the store entirely and saw there was a semi-truck parked in the back. Well, not exactly parked. He got closer and could see the driver there just waiting in the seat. The wolf walked up to the driver, and a rather plump guy rolled down his window.
“What do you want?” a fat cat said from the window, “The water in back is for my next stop.”
“This whole water thing is giving you issues too?” Watch said, and then looked back at the over-stuffed parking lot, “How long have you been stuck here?”
“Since this morning,” The driver said, “I’m supposed to be across Montana by now.”
“That’s where I need to go that way too.” Watch said, “Hey, if I help with this issue, could you give me a ride?”
“And how would you get all these people out?” The driver said, but Watch looked back at him rather seriously. Still the cat looked at him defeated, “If you get the parking lot cleared, you got a deal.”
The wolf nodded then walked away.
Watch made his way over to the water treatment plant, south of town. He saw it connect to a river, and take in some of the river water. It was murky and dirty, even when pouring into the takes for filtration. People were outside scooping out things that were getting into the tanks, and they saw him too. They dismissed him for a moment, but Watch came right up to a moose that was among them.
“What are you here to complain about the water too?” The moose groaned, “We’re doing all we can, it should be safe to drink.”
“I heard that before, but no one is still drinking it.” Watch said, “How do we get it crystal clear again?”
“Why did you come down here?” the moose complained, “It’s already a dirty mess by the time it reaches us. It’s not our fault someone else dump their own mess in, so why are we getting yelled at for it?”
“Someone else’s mess?” Watch said, and thought it over, “Do you know who in particular?” he looked at the moose, “Just give me a name, your best idea of who this is, and I’ll make sure this constant complaining goes away.”
The moose looked at him, tired and already stressed. Watch however was staring at her rather stern and direct. She let out a sigh, “There’s a ton compounds found in dietary supplements. If the new factory, upstream, is making anything with food or waste, they must be dumping it into the river.”
