this day at work i began doing some quick scripting to do reverse name lookups on long lists of IP addresses!
Domain Name Service (DNS for short) works similarly to how contact lists work on phones
In your phone, you have someone's cell phone number, and then you assign a name to that phone number so you know to whom it belongs
It's much easier to remember the person's name rather than their full phone number
DNS is the equivalent of that, but for the whole internet :3
we have websites with names, and their corresponding "phone number" (IP addresses)
For example, when you type in "furaffinity.net" into your web browser, it will send out a message asking DNS "hey DNS, what's the IP for furaffinity.net?" and then DNS will respond "the IP for furaffinity.net is 104.20.18.254"
As with phone contacts, it's much easier for you to remember the name "furaffinity.net" rather than it's IP address "104.20.18.254"
This is also similar to how real life addresses and geographical coordinates work! much easier to remember an address rather than its exact coordinates :3
donkey sits around during work, running his DNS lookup script to fine tune it to work just the way he needs <3 hee hawwww
