well he can at least take solace in the fact Nino felt incredibly guilty for doing what she did and is highly unlikely to put Lyle in serious danger again. Rio I'm none too sure about but he does seem at least to be more a troll than a psycho

Rio is the only character to show any level of respect or leniency to him. Imo hes the only character who actually cares for his wellbeing. Unless nino's being truthful in letting him "retire"

a lot of stuff from Rio makes it feel more like he's intentionally playing the heel. the way that he talks, despite his behavior, it seems like he cares more than he lets on. he's also the most, like, objectively altruistic of the four (admittedly, not a high bar) being the only one to act to proactively help someone else. he seems like he might be an actually good dude... relatively speaking.
although this all could just be a manipulation tactic for his own benefit/entertainment. who's to say.

and, I mean, he also hasn't murdered anyone yet, so there's that too.

and then next chapter he eats someone too, and all of this character speculation goes totally down the drain.

Hm. I really can't read this as anything as Lyle coming back into an abusive relationship, and the abuser is just excused because "they didn't know any better". This comic is sending a very, very weird message.
