In the book Authority by J. Vandermeer, the main character finds something strange in his office desk drawer: A plant with a small mount of dirt, in which a deceased mouse is embedded, the plant's roots seeming to use it as sustinence.
What's more, the plant is green and thriving
this book just kept giving me reasons to keep reading it :P

No clue what Authority is about, but solely from this post, it's reminding me of Beware Us Flowers Of The Annihilator, the book I'm currently reading. A hidden plant thriving off of a single dead mouse feels like it would fit right in as a shorter story. Perhaps I should read Authority...
whoa that sounds super interesting! what's that book about?! hahaha tell me more :D
also, Authority is the 2nd of a series of 4 books. If you do end up deciding to try reading it, i would recommend reading Annihilation, which is the first book
It's a pretty short read too, if you get the time would recommend both, they're pretty damn cool! this sketch i made is also based on Annihilation

The book is a collection of short weird science fiction stories by Alexander Zelenyj. There's a lot of variety in the stories; a soldier hunts monsters alongside his dog, the Enola Gay gets teleported en route to Japan, an alien invades an architect's house, a giant floating skull haunts someone... Also, fittingly, many of the stories involve flowers or war. Highly recommend it.
Oh right, Annihilation! I liked the movie, but I haven't read the book. A friend did, though, and it sounds interesting. I might just start reading the series!
