this day was a rollercoaster
after finishing work, i noticed my pet rabbit hadn't really eaten any of her pellets. In fact, she wasn't moving much at all, just laying down and her breathing strange and alarming. She was also noticeably thinning.
Not knowing whether this was cause for panic or whether it would pass, i called up catbf to tell him about it and we came to the conclusion that a vet visit was in order, urgently.
At this point i was panicking and crying, given the fragility of rabbits and how quickly they can perish from issues like this, i began facing the very real possibility that she might die, all sorts of terrible thoughts began running through my head.
Before her, I had avoided having pets for the longest time, and i'd forgotten just how attached one can become to our little furry companions.
Finally landing an appointment with a vet after closing hours, i rushed in a rideshare taxi with her in tow, feeling dreadful the whole way there. Weirdly enough, at one point the driver brought up some gruesome events that made a pretty big impact on the city i live in, oddly enough. Just one more thing to add on top of all the intense emotions of this day.
Getting to the vet and having him check my pet rabbit was a whole ordeal, though at least she was more lively and curious at the vet clinic, she was still in quite the foul mood from being handled, undertstandably in pain in her little stomach.
After some hands on checking, the vet did say she was clearly in some pain from her stomach and sent us to get some X-rays done of my rabbit, both of her abdomen and her head, to see about any sort of intestinal blockages in her stomach or intestine, and her head to see if there could be any issues with her teeth that could be causing her pain.
We went there, waited for about an hour and finally got her x-rays done. No blockages, just a lot of stomach content. It seemed she was just having some stomach issues with difficult to pinpoint reasons.
It was decided that she would stay in the pet clinic at least for the night to keep her under observation.
And so it was done. Me and catbf took a taxi back, dropping him off at his mom's house, and i getting back to the apartment.
Coming into my apartment to find it empty was such a strange thing to see.
Seeing all the things i have that are my rabbit's, it all begins to feel completely meaningless without the presence of your pet.
Although i knew she was alive and being taken care of, it felt uncomfortably close to the experience i might have, had she perished.
