Outside west of Putnamville, stands a site that folks will be surprised was out there; the remains of the Douglas Airport. Back in the day, this was a training ground for pilots just around the Fresno area. This included flights towards the mountains and mock dog fights in the sky above. For a while, it was busy even after the war. It became a regional airport for small towns and where smaller passenger planes can take off or land. But after the completion of the newer Putnamville Airport down south, the small complex couldn't last longer with its small buildings and aging infrastructure. And while Cal Fire and local pilots tried to use the space, it was not enough to keep her afloat. Even the crop dusters made sporadic uses of the airfields.
After its complete shutdown in 2008 due to asbestos in some of the buildings, the entire base was abandoned. In that time, vandalism and urban exploration descended on the decaying buildings. Rumors persist of a pilot who died in a training accident somewhere in the field, but no one can be sure. Either in the hangers or main terminal building is where the supposed haunting takes place. But again, that's a question of faith towards the supernatural.
Today, Douglas Airport just sits collecting decay with its fate unsure. Will a new development occur, or will a farm buy the land to expand their fields? We may never know. But what is certain is that no planes will ever come back here.
Now this is a new location within the Life Beside the Tracks universe. After getting requested to make a haunted location, I decided to make one based on the Fresno Chandler airport (not abandoned, but reportedly to be haunted). It was a fun exercise in drawing buildings such as these.

it's always a shame when they disappear...
my daughter's first house was right next to an old American airbase in England. We were visiting, and in the middle of the night it sounded like a party was going on downstairs. We wouldn't have thought much of it, but our daughter actually poked her head in to make sure we were OK - she heard it too.
