this day i was watching a video about "the art of not being goverened" and its author giving a presentation on the subject
i found it quite interesting and was typing out notes as i listened to it, something i like to do on ocassion; i find it helps me not mindlessly consume as much. Once you start typing out what you're thinking as you watch, you can sometimes realize just how much information you're pushing into your brain
basically the talk was about how people throughout history have avoided statehood, meaning: these people are not under any government, rather they are stateless, and ramin so by choice. A popular way to do this is to live and remain in higher ground, literally live in the mountains.
Of course in a romanticised way this sounds pretty good, given those of us who do live in statehood tend to see many of its negatives; of which there are many.
but they way these stateless people live and thrive also sounds quite nice, but to me it sounds at least more purposeful than most modern lives, living by your people and community, procuring the food source, doing utilitarian labor for the group, constantly moving, decidedly maintainin oral histories.
That's another thing i found fascinating: many of these communities tend to avoid written documentation or histories, favoring oral histories and teachings. They choose not to have a defined history. Something about that was striking to me.
of course this would also be quite a difficult change for someone used to living in statehood i would assume, but who knows....
drew donkey dave looking at the city sitting from the up in the mountains ... who knows, maybe living among mountain community of other donkeys...
