The in-story reason for her makeover is that she wants to look different from her "WANTED" poster.
It will be difficult for her to sacrifice her old style to gain this new disguise. Her pride and stubbornness are not easy to overcome. Even so, the avoidance of being turned back into stone will prove to be an adequate motivator.
(I am also debating whether she gets lightly bullied by some schoolgirls who inform her that her style is very outdated and strange. Cozy Glow is aiming to look cute and approachable. The notion that she is immediately clocked as inferior or out-of-place bothers her.)
The real-world reason for her makeover is that I adamantly refuse to draw all those horrid little curls and hair details.
