Alamar the talking traffic light appeared during the boom of talking objects/animals, i.e. Mr. Ed, Babe: Pig in the big city, Milo and Otis, Gladys the Talking head of lettuce, Barry the talking ampersand written on a million dollar check. (The protagonist must decide whether to cash in the check and reach financial freedom with the risk of losing his new friend)
The idea was scrapped when Walt Disney got a paper cut from it. Since then, traffic lights have endured much criticism as being "too wavery".
