So I was originally going to do this one only bragging about how good the Kalashnikov design is... but really it's starting to show it's age.
Both the AK platform and the AR platform are getting really old, and sadly from what I have personally seen it doesn't seem like there is much of anything new coming out. AKs are made out of plastics and polymer now instead hardened steel and stained wood. They actually used steel cased ammunition instead of brass once upon a time.
And AKs now are chambered in 5.45×39 instead of 7.62×39 because the recoil was apparently "too much to handle".
ARs are boring though, they only exist because the M14 was too much for Vietnam and the full auto was useless.
And when they got M16s in Vietnam, they didn't even work. The conditions were too harsh for the weapon system. What's most obvious is the missing brass deflector and forward assist on the original M16. These additions are because of design flaws that the rifle still has today.
Anyone who runs an AR today knows the pains of the system, constantly double feeding or failing to extract. Now the one and only "solve all problems" technique is to grip the charging handle and slam the rifle on the ground butt first. And if that doesn't work... well you're just screwed I guess.
I know myself that you're inclined to buy completely new parts for your rifle because one completely stock lacks many, many necessary features.
Ambidextrous controls are easy to install yourself, but on a Armalite pattern rifle there is lots of weird stuff you have to do to achieve that.
Also, I know it's an expensive hobby, but FFS Daniel Defense, I do not need your RIS handguard so bad that I'm willing to pay a *MINIMUM* of $500 for it...
Lovles <3 (the title is sarcastic btw, lol)
