So excited to finally share this! I have a nasty habit of rushing to create artwork in one day, rather than taking breaks when I'm fatigued and coming back to it another time. I feel like it usually results in rushed drawings with silly mistakes. With this guy, I was much more gentle with myself and put it down several times. The paper sketch started on 4/3, and I just finished the whole thing today (4/11). I even let myself take several days just to finish the sketch which is unheard of for me! Taking breaks made this much more fun to create and felt a lot less stressful. I'm hoping to maintain and develop this mindset more going forward.
I also incorporated a lot of mediums and stylistic choices which gives this an interesting feel. I drew the sketch on paper, colored and shaded digitally, used an airbrush preset for the grass, and used real photos as textures for the ground and the boulder. I also experimented a little bit with colored line art, but in the end I only used it for the bubbles. This is also my first major drawing that I've shared with shading (I think) and a background that isn't just a flat color or gradient. I plan to experiment with all of these elements more going forward.
