This strip is based on my first experience driving through the town of Fairplay, CO.
Why all the references to "South Park"?
Why did many stores along the main street feature stuff based on the cartoon?
This 1850's town has a reconstruction of the original town and museum called South Park City?
Then I discovered that the whole valley is called "South Park". Further, it is a National Park Heritage site.

Parts of the town, and especially the stores, have embraced the cartoon. And, that I find funny.

The Colorado Springs and Denver hot air balloon clubs feature a weekend fly on the open fields just East of the town boarders of South Park. Typically held during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, though it varies some years. Generally good flying conditions there: nice, open lands with lots of access, mild, predictable winds, and camping allowed for the balloonists overnighting on the field.
One of the typical contests held during these events is a "Target Toss": degradable baggies weighted with seeds are dropped by the pilots on a target set out on the field by an earlier pilot or "fox" balloon who departs the launch site first. The baggie closest to the bulls-eye wins. It's a variation of a "Fox and Hounds" chase event.
One year, for the South Park event, the target was a large cardboard figure of the character "Kenny". And any for baggies that actually hit the target, the pilots got to claim they'd "Killed Kenny" (Oh No!) during the event. *GRIN*
Vrghr's got a few wonderful photos of the balloons flying around the valley out there from when wuffy used to be a Crew Chief for one of the local pilots, years ago.
