Chapter 15: Egg
“So it’s really real?” He said
“Seems so” I replied
“I mean right there and everything.”

His child, or at this point egg, but a hatchling it would be soon. He didn’t really think that Lapis could help him much with that but he did have a question, “Why is there only one?”

“Well ya, but normally dragons have a clutch and…”
“A CLUTCH!! How the heck would my body even contain a BUNCH of dragons?”
“If I could interrupt” Lapis said, “Most bipeds and Taurs only release one fertile ovum per menstrual cycle, so a single child per pregnancy is the norm. More can happen, but normally just the one. The rest is still a big guess though.”
“Guessing?” I asked.
“If you two haven’t talked about it yet. Dragons, at least his sort of dragon, can do both live births and eggs. From what I understand if the pregnancy goes on long enough the egg dissolves and the child is eventually born fully ready. But if necessary eggs can be laid early if the dragon needs them out for some reason, but then the eggs need to be incubated and kept warm until they hatch.”
“Soo…. Will my ‘egg’… God it’s still weird to say that. Will my egg ‘hatch’ internally for a live birth, or will I … will I be laying eggs…”
“Can’t really say”
“What?” I asked
“What?” Kaida echoed, “I mean a female can decide when to lay an…. Oh right you don’t normally do eggs….”
“We don’t” Lapis said, “So we honestly aren’t positive how Alicia’s body will carry it. We’ll have to keep careful monitor on the situ….”
“I’ll be here too!” Kaida asserted.
“Kaida…”
“Alicia. I.. I get it about not… being only mine and all that. I GET IT, but… if we don’t really know how your body will react? What if you need help! You’re my child’s mother and if you or the baby need help I want to be there!”

“I’ll sleep outside. Dragons find caves all the time… or used to. I’m sure I can figure it out.”
