Been a tick or three since we've had a little quality time for some good ol' SUnday Sinning, hasn't it? Well, with free-thought, freedom of expression and respect for the freedom of others in general still being as tenuous a concept to grasp as it's always been for the questionably-sentient yet big-mouthed ass-clowns of the world- let's get back on that.
"Life is sacred".
Its a simplistic little phrase often used in the continuing maelstrom of disaster-pornography we call the reproductive freedom "debate" in America- often re-framed as "women's health", "right to life" or some other euphemistic, deliberately misleading shorthand for an agenda of control of others. It used to be bandied about much more often in years past when it was still being called "the abortion debate". Though not as popular a go-to for the authoritarian christian right as it once was, it does still come out of the tool box fairly often.
But do any of its users understand what it means? "Sacred"? Any tool is useful if you know how to use it, but what if you don't even understand its content? Know what it's for? Its substance? Its application and how it changes between source and outcome?
Sacred... Barring any definition explicitly religious or superstitious in nature, "sacred" is defined roughly as "free from or not exposed to violation, infringement etc. As by reverence or sense of right. - regarded with reverence".
Often, the same persons who claim that my life is "sacred" also rather fervently and without evidence claim that I was born deserving an existence of toil, hard-labor, torture, agony and anguish. This should continue all my days until the sun finally set upon me and mortality returns my atoms whence I came.
As my years went on and both my anatomy and appetites flourished, the list of tortures and torments I was somehow deserving of increased exponentially. From any manner of punishment for my evil sinful sexuality to incarceration, torment and even death for refusing to acknowledge and outright mockery of the creator-entity of their church, my existence as a "beautiful SACRED part of God's perfect plan" seemed to be- at best- a negotiable thing. Though my immortal soul is somehow "sacred" as a newborn babe, I was a charcoal briquette for the Brimstone Pitts of eternity.. This notion has persisted all my days, yet has enjoyed a rather annoying sense of entitlement to a megaphone of late,
What versatility. What strange inconsistency. Somehow, I am "sacred" yet, equally "profane"- endowed by a supposed creator with a distinction of divinity, immunity to violation- yet also deserving of condemnation, agony and destruction...
I believe we must all respect the ideal of each others right to bodily autonomy, the right to self-determination and to seek, discover and pursue what purpose we believe in as individuals. As a Matron Mother, a humanist and a lover of life, I stand by The Satanic Temple tenants on these matters unequivocally.
I also believe that when it comes to the term "sacred" most fundamentalist\evangelical christians are using a set of vice grips to hammer in screws.
Our lives are infinite in possibility yet paradoxically finite in span. That's not exactly 'sacred' but it is pretty damned awesome to think about.
We were born to be alive. Past that, the glory and beauty of the light you shine is a wonder all your own. I hope you all find someone or something to share that majesty with.
One World and One Love. Ave Lucifer.

Life isn't sacred. Life is circumstantial. Weeds grow from beneath the cracks of heavy pavement. No one put them there, they simply are. A dandelion with scatter it's seeds only as far as the wind cares to. That's all life is. Living. Existing. LOVE is sacred. Love is the only thing worth living for, the only thing worth dying for. It may even be the only thing worth killing for. Love is to the soul what blood is to the heart. The realest truest love is a gift, given freely, openly, unconditionally, without any promise of return or recompense. Love cannot be earned and it cannot be deserved, because it is needed. It is vital.
