Here's Pony John Lennon singing a protest song about cupcakes. Seems there's a certain segment of MLP fandom for whom the word "cupcakes" means, first and foremost, not sweet delicious cupcakes themselves, but an undeservedly infamous gory horror story. Lennon hopes to put a stop to that and restore the good name of cupcakes everywhere.
(I've got a tune in mind for this song which I shall record if I can figure out how to make all this audio and music stuff work.)
EDIT: I have recorded an a cappella demo here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6480405/
EDIT 2:
dannydingo recorded a full-blown version! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6485639/

What bothered me was not the story itself but the other bronies' reactions to it. For a while, it seemed like most fans of the show would rather imagine Pinkie Pie as a dangerous psycho than a wacky cartoon character, and considering how strongly I identify with her, it upset and disturbed me, making me feel alone in this new fandom I'd discovered, and giving otherwise innocent scenes from the show unwanted creepy undertones. I hated it.
Oh you havent seen a website dedicated to psychotic Pinkie Pie answering questions from deranged fans, killing Fluttershy with a plastic bag, making out with Scootaloo and being coevered in blood all the time.
Youre right we shouldnt go that far-we should let Heinrich Himmler personally rip that imposter Pinkie apart with a bayonet.

I personally like both happy Pinky and evil Pinkie, just not how she's depicted in Cupcakes because I prefer other versions the fandom has made.
I wish people would stop trying to point at things in the show and claim it's 'evidence' of Pinkie being secretly psycho. I like depictions of psycho Pinkie because I have a taste for the grimdark, but geez people stop trying to prove the two characters are one and the same!

I know this is sounding like a echo chamber, but I've seen the same annoying trend with Celestia.
"OMIGOSH, she occasionally proves she has a sense of humor, TROLLESTIA."
There's canon, and there's not canon, some folks need to learn the difference.
I can't help but wonder if there will be unnecessary backlash during Season Two when fans who grow attached to their ideas of what the backround pony personalities are see them portrayed differently than expected.
Sorry if this discussion is cluttering up the page with Off-Topic stuff, we can switch to notes if you'd like to continue.

Even worse:
"OMG she occasionally proves she has a sense of humor, therefore TROLLESTIA, therefore it makes sense for me to draw her being a total dick, or even a cruel monster! HAHAHA look at this, she'll never let Twilight see her parents again, how FUNNY!"
Or, more specifically, after Owl's Well That Ends Well aired, with its scene of Rainbow Dash getting starry-eyed Scootaloo to dispose of an apple core for her, one of the top comments was "SCOOTABUSE CONFIRMED!" But [a] that's not abuse, that's taking advantage at worst, and [b] "Scootabuse" is not funny, and anyone who thinks it is is a creep.
Heh... in one of my "Simpsons visit Ponyville" cartoons, I decided that ponies have neither doughnuts nor alcoholic beverages. The first was disproven by "The Best Night Ever", but was I annoyed? Nope. Heck, I was even able to modify it: maybe they have doughnuts in Canterlot but not Ponyville. What if we see doughnuts being sold at Sugarcube Corner in Season 2? Then I'll just shrug my shoulders and say "oh, well".
As for the second thing, it's *sort of* disproven, because Berry Punch being the town drunk is *almost* canon. One of the storyboard artists, who goes by "sibsy" online, mentioned that she thinks of Berry Punch as the town drunk, and wanted to have her burp after drinking from the punch bowl in "Call of the Cutie". (Hasbro said no, though.)
Some bits of fanon can be fun: I'm amused by Lyra having hand envy. And no, I don't mind talking about this here at all!

Celestia has fan interpretation that swings between 'benevolent ruler' and 'evil tyrant' a lot. Despite how benevolent she's shown to be, some fans claim the whole sister banishment proves she isn't. We don't actually know everything about the Elements of Harmony, so fan guessing about their nature and why they had a different effect when used by the mane six keep the possibility open (at least in their minds).
Oh yeah, Scootabuse. I think it stemmed from something Lauren Faust said about Dash not being good sister material, which OF COURSE made fans leap to conclusions. You have exactly one scene to back that theory up, you can have your fanon just don't claim it's canon!
I like to think Berry Punch isn't necessarily 'the drunk', it just so happens that her favorite fruity drinks are alcoholic, making her that way as the end result On the Ponychan /rp/ board I've seen someone play Berry Punch being hung over, and it was delightfully funny that an OC friend was a loudmouth.
Can't wait for some Season 2 Luna!

I never picked up on the "town drunk" aspect of Berry Punch. But that suddenly explains so many of the drawings I've seen of her...
As for Princess Celestia, my thoughts are here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2660079/
Banishing Luna to the moon seems a bit extreme, but it makes sense from a story standpoint. Nightmare Moon was, after all, threatening the well-being of all the ponies in Equestria. And as far as I'm concerned, they were reconciled at the end of Episode 2 -- end of story. (My own, personal fanon has Celestia living in Canterlot, and Luna residing in the restored Palace of the Royal Pony Sisters.)
And, yes -- more Luna in S2! According to one of the animators who worked on the show, the Luna episode "is pretty cool."

I am eager with anticipation!
And I think what people find jarring about the moon banishment is that when the Mane Six use the elements with an entirely different effect, when it's not explained why Celestia couldn't have just done that instead. Don't get me wrong, no one could blame her for choosing banishment over doing nothing, it's just that there are only fan theories as to why she couldn't do what Twilight and her friends did, most of them being along the lines of:
-she didn't embody the elements as well as the Mane Six despite her magical power.
-she could do what they did, but it would have taken longer than banishment and she was afraid of what NMM could do during that time.
I'm sure there's more but those are the two I remember the most.

It's almost as if they can't enjoy the show on its own merit, and have to not only make up "adult" parodies of it but push them on everyone else as if they're better than the real thing. Stuff like that really makes me wonder if those people who think the majority of "fans" only like the show "ironically" are on to something after all.
Bravo, sir, on your committed campaign against the frowners and downers who seem to think that tragedy/atrocity somehow equates to coolness or gravitas.
In my view it's a very adolescent way of looking at the world. They stumble out of childhood and realize that not everything is sweet and happy. But then they stick there, thinking that they've attained final wisdom in nihilism.
Pro tip, kids. The grownups understand that there's darkness, but we move on and don't let it poison everything we experience. Joy can exist without constantly having a reminder of sadness or pain. You can smile without it being a smirk or a sneer.
Lighten the heck up!
