For the record this obviously isn't the disc jockey who shared the same name - this was a huntsman from Cumbria who glamourised this sick excuse for a sport in the early 19th century and even had some song about him. Right up to the point where he fell off of his horse and he never brought direct harm to a fox ever again.
You know, I wouldn't be surprised if foxes have actually done this in real life! =P That's how they mark their territory after all.

I've tried to get into deer hunting, but I still don't see any "sport" in sitting in the woods with a high powered rifle, much less using a pack of dogs to flush an animal, then riding a horse to catch it and kill it with a a rifle. Now if a person wants to go trophy hunting and goes stalking grizzly bears with a knife, now that would be sport! XD
Indeed, if one needs to kill a fox then it's for survival - ie, to protect a farm. You go out, you face it, you shoot it, you morn the nessesity - circle of life and all that.
You don't get dressed up like a twat and have fun doing it, only sadists do that.
Sadists and the landed gentry....or are they the same thing?

The Countryside Alliance is tragic, and a shame. Our farmers have legitimate concerns - like how over 50% of dairy farmers work at a loss as we buy cheaper milk from Europe, or how the lower subsidies make them more-or-less slaves to their work, or how supermarkets get to buy a liscenese on a farm only to just pay them for the choicest parts and leaving them unable BY LAW to sell the rest to anyone else.
The only group they have representing them is the Countryside Alliance...and the toffs made it so that all people know them for is fox hunting, thus making anything else they say get lost as background noise.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Queen (I'm a monarchist) but I think her relatives need a good kicking sometimes.

I agree with the Charles comment, but the Calgary Stampede thing is something they were required to go to. They're royals and their Canadian subjects organised the tour - that's the pitfall of being a royal, they're not supposed to side with anyone so for all we know the two of them hated every moment of it, but they're not allowed to say one way or another.
Which is why Charles campagning against architecture is technically illigal under our constitution. Their job is to be the voice of the country, but I feel that Charles has chosen to insert the world "moral" before voice - they say what we tell them to say, not what they think we want them to say.
Or at least that's what's supposed to happen.
The wonders of being British, eh?
