I've been basically dead lately, so I guess I'll post this randomness. I haven't had much of a chance to get back to actually drawing or anything.
This was for photo class. Basically, I recently found a bunch of HTTYD toys on clearance, so I bought them in their huge boxes and tried to smuggle them out among my college shopping (one small comb and a bottle of vitamins).
This is the Fire Breathing Night Fury (with Dive Bomb action), which is all kinds of awesome, though the Hiccup on his back is wearing the wrong outfit and evidently was in some mishap that disfigured his hair and face.
And there he is standing on... my computer I guess. Two of my favorite hunks of plastic.
I like it, though it was a cell-phone picture; ideally I'd like, blur out the background or something so it didn't look like it was taken in a dorm room.

This is the best one I've found, personally. It's a really nice, mostly anatomically correct flight-geared-up Toothless, (Though his wing membrane doesn't extend to above the hip, as you can see here).
The only thing is, because he's "fire breathing", he has a blue wad of plastic perpetually in his gaping mouth, which makes him look like he's choking on a dildo or something. (In action, it sticks out, glows, and spins with a really dorky sound effect).
I hear there's another just "Night Fury" figure, which looks like this: http://thetoymuseum.blogspot.com/20.....ight-fury.html
He's really not that much different from the one I have- the only differences seem to be that mine has flapping wings, the fire stays in his mouth rather than being a removable dart, mine has in-movie tail instead of battle tail, and he stands up, rather than looks like he's flying.

Seriously! It doesn't seem like it would be too horrible to make one, either- I mean, just use a 3D printer to make a prototype from the computer polygons, and go.
Or hell, there has to be some skilled sculptor that could make a decent mold.
I don't know. I really have an affinity for really well made still-figures or toys.

Well, I understand that. Though I wonder what it would be like if we were more like Japan, where it's still technically illegal (I think...) but creators are so lax about copyright that it's completely cool to sell stuff like fancomics (they consider it publicity), as long as you don't end up actually being competition to the real thing (which has only happened once as far as I've researched).
Like I said, it's not our fault if we want more/higher quality merchandise than the copyright holders care to give us. And HTTYD's merchandise in general is pretty ugh. XP
I mean, where are the HTTYD adult-sized T-shirts (they do have crap for children)? All you have to do is load a graphic into Photoshop/Illustrator, apply a ton of filters and random border designs, add some text and BOOM, T-Shirt. And yet, I have yet to see a black t-shirt with Toothless eyes across the boobs, or anything with "occupational hazard" or "small-home repair Viking". C'mon, Hot Topic. I'd wear that crap.
And yes, it is called "Dragons." It actually makes sense; if the sequel follows in line with the way the books were titled, it would not be called HTTYD2 but "How to Be A Pirate" (or How To something else). HTTYD has always been just the title of the first installment; given, it sums up the series pretty well, but Dragons is a better catch-all term.

Huh! What I know mostly is the fan-comic culture. I do hear about the animation/movie companies plaguing Youtube, though.
I freaking love papercraft. XD
And I hope so (perhaps they didn't realize the adult appeal it would have when planning merchandise?)- but for right now, HTTYD IS FOR CHILDREN, GUIZ.
I assume they have. I mean, HTTYD and the Boneknapper were basically bits from the entire series in a blender.
They're planning on making a trilogy, though, so they're not doing like, ten movies (though it is Dreamworks so.... you know). XD I think what they're going to do is do something similar to How to Be a Pirate next (the main thing being to introduce Alvin), and then in the last movie, focus on the dragon-related apocalypse or whatever that hasn't been published by Cowell in books 9 and 10 yet (they've said that the trilogy will be about Hiccup's ascent to chiefdom)- so mostly an Alvin-fixated storyline. A lot, obviously will be screwed around and changed, and I think while what they do will be inspired by bits and pieces of the books, no part is going to be taken literally from the books (just like the first movie).
I imagine other characters and sideplots (like Norbert the Nutjob and Humongously Hotshot and the Romans, etc.) will be reserved for the MMO and/or the TV show, rather than the big-screen stuff.

I heard next to nothing about HTTYD before I saw it- I was pretty much going to see it anyway. XD
I think AMV's are kind of shakier ground though, given that they generally do use actual footage and sound from the films rather than being created from scratch, like fancomics/fan merchandise. Though I do think it's dumb that they would snub what was obviously free publicity. XP
Like I said, I think they're going to divide up the material among the movies, TV show and MMORPG. All I know is that they've said it's a trilogy, and I think it's very possible to achieve a round trilogy if they blend up the books and such like they did the first time around. Obviously they'll have to leave out a lot, but again, that's what the other materials are for.
And given there are giant dragons (Leviathorgan, Doomfang, Strangulator, Fire Dragon, Darkbreather, etc.) in basically more than half the novels, there's seriously no reason why another one or three or seven won't pop up in the course of the franchise.
I have a feeling they're REALLY going to have to play up Toothless' weaknesses though, if they want any kind of story. Book Hiccup had to go through a lot of crap with a disobedient slip of a thing. They're really going to have to turn it to 11 to ever come close to that sense of peril. I have a feeling it will involve separating the two in peril, because being separated will isolate their "ground skills" as it were, which'll be interesting, since from what we've seen so far, without schematics in hand, Hiccup is basically useless without a dragon at his beck and call. And we need to see more of his Chief-worthiness.

I was freaked out, since I had grown up on the book. I had no idea what the hell was going on, and Hiccup's voiceactor was OMG UGH (I adore him now, though XD). Though even from the beginning, that fish-eating scene was quite endearing to me. Honestly I thought I would go in and hate it, but I couldn't miss that opportunity to be a book-learned know it all. XD
Well, that's what I said. Free publicity. Though I could see how using pirated clips could be construed as anti-publicity. XD ("OH BY THE WAY GUYS, THERE'S A PIRATED VERSION YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY TO SEE- I HAVE IT- SO COULD YOU!")
Whatever they do, I assume they have to do it without talking dragons. I also wouldn't be surprised, if Furious does show up, if they change his breed. In the books, it didn't matter because the Seadgraonuses were seven books apart and it was a more meaningful connection, but in a trilogy, it'll just appear redundant to have the same monster twice in three movies. Canonically, they haven't said Hiccup's full title in the movie/shorts themselves (though they have in other materials), so I'm wondering if it'll be important or not- in the books, you got to wonder about that "the Third" for ages- right now, NOBODY's wondering.
DeBlois said something about the whole "Northern Hemisphere" being within reach, so obviously there will be some travel, possibly significantly, in the future. Even though it originally wasn't an Alvin subplot, I wouldn't be surprised at all at a venture to America (I think they'll avoid the Roman stuff). The books were full of mostly nasty neighboring tribes with their own brutal dragons, but of course it was a world of already-domesticated dragons, so I'm not sure how that'll play out- especially since a lot of Hiccup's troubles come from being kidnapped and whatnot. Not sure how another tribe is going to compete with Berk at this point, unless they have their own dragons.
I didn't say downplay strengths. I said play up weaknesses. XD Toothless is basically only vulnerable in that he wants to protect Hiccup, which got him caught in the first film. Once you tie him down, he's stuck. But he can escape deep holes despite his lack-o-flight, and he's obviously an impressive runner. He's naturally elusive. The only way you're going to be able to catch him is eff around with Hiccup, or possibly gain his trust another way.
In the books, Hiccup was an untapped genius at swordfighting. I seriously doubt they'll introduce that back into this series- there's just no setup for it, and it would almost make the duo overpowered at this point (although it would give Hiccup... a leg to stand on. Or fall off of). In the books, his other skills (aside from his "way with the beasts", which will obviously come in handy) were mostly unabashed snark, and the Fiendishly Clever Plan. He can undermine an entire plot as long as he finds the key. Though without running OR sneaking (squeaky leg XP) I just hope they find a way for him to shine on his own.
They HAVE to get separated. Perhaps they'll even screw around and disable Toothless' flight.
I definitely see some LOL DRAGONS IN THE HOUSE ARE VERY UNPRACTICAL things coming up. I mean, heck, in the books, that stuff was everywhere, and the dragons weren't HUGE.

Now that I think of it, it was almost kind of spoilerish, that scene- it exposed some of the juiciest, best parts of the movie. But they HAD to do it- it inspired in me a hole in my doubts about the film, as I'm sure it did to a lot of other people.
I wouldn't be surprised if they lured Toothless into a trap via Hiccup somehow- perhaps kidnapping him to get Toothless to expose himself or something. And betrayal really is a theme when Alvin comes along- he befriends most of the tribe before betraying them. In the books, Toothless catches on early, but perhaps in the movie, he'll be more easily seduced? I could easily see it going both ways.
And I mean, his other dragony weaknesses, fish and eel.
and neck scratchings. XD
Yeah, movie Hiccup is gads more pathetic than even his book counterpart was. His inventions are literally the biggest improvement (aside from the fact that the movie's dragons are actually trainable and comprehend loyalty)- book Hiccup couldn't build a boat or a wristwatch worth a crap, but movie Hiccup can and probably will build all manner of curious devices.
I think having a Zippleback or a Nightmare would be even crazier- they'd probably always be stickin' their heads through the windows, and god forbid the Nightmare get a head cold.
Though Gronckles probably housetrain like, really well. They're not as power-packed as the Furies- they'd probably just hover in and curl up by the fire and never budge. XD

If he's realized well, he'll be incredibly entertaining, at least (I love Cressida's villains in general- I hope Norbert the Nutjob at least has a good presence in the TV show, for example, cuz he's one of my faves.) He's just so menacing in that he keeps coming back (he kind of has similarities,to both the Harry/Voldemort dynamic and Count Olaf/Baudelaire orphans).
HTTYD in general isn't so much about baddies so much as the fact that the very jaws of nature are ready to close on us, any of us, at any given time- the first book was basically about Death. The movie bumped that focus away to more the father/son dynamic, one of the series' other major themes. The book's Green Death can be construed as far more evil, though as he says himself "I come in peace- I'm still going to kill you though." He's hungry. His fatal flaw, however, is his ego. In the movie, he really is just a rampaging beast that can control other rampaging beasts.
That'll be interesting to see, I think, how Hiccup deals with baddies from now on. In the books, Hiccup was actually quite pacifist despite his swordplay- he never directly hurts a villain (so far). In fact, if the villains could see past their egos when dealing with poor Hiccup, they'd never end up in trouble at all. It's only their misguided REVENGE that lures them into peril. In the movie, we've already had Hiccup actively fight a dragon, though that could really be on either side of the line. It'll be interesting- and important- how the movies treat the idea of solving conflict with violence in the future. I think Hiccup's sense of mercy and generally pacifistic nature is what makes him unique, and if that ends up being broken too much (even through Toothless), I think I'll be very disappointed.
The eel thing will probably stay. Although I have a hard time picturing it being used in a serious situation. XD Probably just a gag to buy time in a dragon chase scene or something.
I think a Terror would probably be hell to have around the house- if they're anything like the dragon they were made to emulate, they'd be eating all your food and ravaging your house just for kicks.

I also have a Toothless figure that was made by DW and isn't the one from this photo or the photo in the first reply to your comment. Mine flaps his wings and can open his mouth, but he doesn't have any fire. Here's what he looks like (he didn't come with the chain) http://tinypic.com/r/aob04z/7
Its the best one I've ever seen personally, and I got him on sale! :D The only thing is..since his tail drops down because he's supposed to be flying, if you try to make him stand, his back legs are way off the ground because of his tail. He does keep balance though at least.
Nah, I just made a harness/leash for him =p

Thanks so much! :)
He can make "fire" sound effects (which are mostly drowned out by the mechanism of the "fire" shooting, and if you turn it to "flight" setting, he'll make flapping noises like he's flying (if you "dip" him in the air, he makes a... dive bomb noise I guess).

to be honest, if one removes the Dell (i think thats what it is) logo at the bottom, then it would not look much like a dorm room. with the lighting & the reflection of the blinds on the computer, at first glance, i thought it was toothy in some wavy water with the sun in the background
