WCOTP, Ten Years
Its the Tenth Anniversary of the Terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
I drew this the day of the attack, literally watching the endless infamous loops on the news http://www.graphxpress.com/cgi-bin/.....?date=20010911
At the first anniversary I did this http://www.graphxpress.com/cgi-bin/.....?date=20020910
And the 5th I did this http://www.graphxpress.com/cgi-bin/.....?date=20060910
Sadly we're still at war with al Qaeda, though the ringleader has been waxxed. Not like the US is fighting another nation with marked borders and uniforms. Instead we battle a radical idea interpreted by some hard core mullahs and their fanatical followers.
But the wounds of 9-11 are finally starting to heal.

One of the small items of interest is that there is, literally, a Subway sandwich shop in the middle of the construction zone on the tower. They placed one up there -- its location keeps changing as the work moves up -- so workers didn't have to travel far to eat. Some, of course, still go to the old bars that survived the Great Depression and World War II, let alone 9-11.
I think the one that's most haunting is the one you drew from the 2nd anniversary.
And I remember exactly where I was: At the family cabin at Lake Tahoe. We'd been in Reno, gambling the night before, and were sleeping in.
A brother of mine called and said, "Have you heard about what's going on in NY? Do you have the TV on?"
We said, "No.." but seconds later we had it turned on. Even before the second aircraft was rammed into the second tower we all knew this was War.
For the first time... I understood what my grandparents knew and felt on December 7, 1941; and just as pissed.
The pride in my Republic since... shall never waver! EVER.

Smile, nod, and walk away sloooowly.
no wait, Slow and steady wins the race...but it's faster to take a taxi.
maybe, Brush your teeth after every meal.
possibly, Always keep a good joke and an escape route in your back pocket.
Man, the Wheel of Morality is failing me these days.
Let's just say the moral is, respect the people lost to tragedy by not forgetting them.

I actually walk right by 1 WTC/Freedom Tower every day on my way to and from Jersey City; the PATH terminal is right in front of it. I, for one, can hardly wait until they finish all of the long-overdue rejiggering of the subway and interstate rail lines that are part and parcel of the whole rebuilding. I used to go through the PATH terminal when the old WTC was around and I worked in Newark, and I think the new one will be better. It'll be interesting to see how they handle all of the folks who want to visit the Memorial...traffic patterns in that area are a little tight.
Still: tight and busy is good, in these circumstances.

Tom,
You have made my day. I was anxiously awaiting something from you, knowing that your entire being would come through. And it does. On another journal, the person was lamenting the fact that we need to FORGET it. One of the comments on his journal really pissed me off:
"I really don't give a shit about 9/11. I didn't have any loved ones who died in the World Trade Center or the flights. Why should something like this affect me on a personal level?
How I see it is as long as it has nothing to do with me on a personal level or how it will affect me or those I care about, why should I care?"
My response:
It's a painful day. It should not be forgotten. Not everything can be happy and healing.
Our Village had people who died in there. Even a furry K9 died there when the building collapsed on his kennel.

I was teaching at my school when it happened. Try telling children in grades pre-K through 8 WHY this had to happen.
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to fulfill it" George Santayana.
We should never forget.
We should care. You are not just one insignificant soul who couldn't care less. You're connected.
It's not media ratings. It's history that should have never happened. But it did.
The fact that we now are capable of driving it home again and again shouldn't dull us to the reality and horror of terrorism.
For some reason, Tom, it's a huge thing to me. Many people and a service dog perished in the attack. And it was an attack of huge dimensions. The pain may start to subside, BUT the memory must NEVER be forgotten. Ask anyone involved in the Holocaust. They are dying out. But the memory must not.

I remember where I was when I first heard about the attack.
I remember the days that followed.
I remember the reaction on those around me, as we hold memorial services every 9/11.
I will always remember when we found the "mastermind" behind 9/11 and put him down, like the coward he was.
But I will always remember the twins, the fire fighters, the people, President Bush and the courageous passengers of Flight 93.
i watched it but all disillusion of media is weird of in my opinion , why pentagon attack was not filmed? why only film shows just explosion on pentagon and not plane anywhere?(like it was bomb attack) , why all plane who hit pentagon vanished?(they say whole plane vaporised , it never happened ever that whole plane burn/vanished , what happened to building nr 7 of world trade center complex who collapsed but not was attacked in any way? , it collapsed just like world trade center , in way if it was was demolished by explosives(you can you tube it and see for yourself , rarely anyone know on world building nr 7 of world trade complex collapsed as it was never told in almost any media) how burning fuel could melt steel construction? it happened first time ever in whole world...twice in same place just minutes later:F why bin laden was hidding so close to military training center in Pakistan just under everyone nose(especially CIA nose) , why bin laden was instantly killed , and his body dumped into the sea? why does terrorist who died in plane attacks was never terrorists and was found in various parts of the world as normal human beings , why who real terrorist who died were old trained CIA operatives , why does just 2 planes were left to defend whole eastern coast of U.S? , why it took so long for them to takeoff? why they not intercept any plane despite they knew positions of last two?
all these make me think just not bin laden is responsible , may innocent who will never know the truth forever rest in peace

It happened while I was driving to work... Heard the security guard in the lobby talking about it as I headed for the elevator... Didn't know what she was talking about at the time, but later I realized... I'm a telemarketer, and at the time I was working the Verizon Long Distance project... And Verizon's main offices were in the World Trade Center...
While at work, it occurred to me that the WTC could be a diversionary attack, so there I was, looking out the west windows of the building, and wondering if the mushroom clouds would be visible if the west coast was being nuked... After a couple of hours of my gut feeling tight as a drum, they shut everything down and sent us home for the day...
I still remember how disturbing that was... People were dying in New York, and I got a day off from work...

When one looks at the timing, one has to wonder how fast ANYONE could have gotten out. How fast can ANYONE get down all those flights of stairs in the amount of time allotted?
I am in a wheelchair. I would not have made it.
There was a Christian Man named Edward Beyea who had a Jewish friend names Avremel (Abe) Zelmanowitz. The Christian man was wheelchair-bound and the Jewish man stayed with him until both lives were lost. Abe told Ed's Caregiver to leave while she still can. He stayed with Ed. She survived.

I cried a lot today, listening to the courageous acts of heroes who never were before, and those who have gone onto their eternal rest. No amount of miracles will ever bring them back, and no amount of revenge will ever equal the hatred of that day. We mourn. We commemorate. We remember. We NEVER FORGET our own kind of "holocaust." Not as horrendous, but equally as tragic.
I wonder about Justice. Was She served?
I listen to Congressmen who say that we cannot AFFORD to help ANY victims anymore UNLESS it is balanced out in the budget.
I see that Compassion and Human Kindness has taken a back seat to Conservatism is our country. What a tragic sadness.

You know what I think we should do on Ground Zero? I hear lots of crap about parks and memorials and lots of money wasting.
You want a real FUCK YOU to Al-Qaeda? You know what would be a good memorial? Build the towers back up!! Build 'em just as they were! Le the world know anything that they tear down, we will put right back up.
